Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Great story telling of a modern David Copperfield...filled with the tragedies of youth and survival of diamonds in the rough!
Revisado: 10-09-24
The pain of the poor and lonely trying to survive in a world of drugs and deceit... balanced by characters who did offer hope, guidance and love. There was wonderful character development, a narrative of natural rural beauty, and a novel that offers some hope and empathy for the youth of 21st century America.

Historia
Fueled by a powerful curiosity - and by a need to see, feel, and hear, firsthand and close-up - Michael Crichton's journeys have carried him into worlds diverse and compelling - swimming with mud sharks in Tahiti, tracking wild animals through the jungle of Rwanda. This is a record of those travels - an exhilarating quest across the familiar and exotic frontiers of the outer world, a determined odyssey into the unfathomable, spiritual depths of the inner world.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Historia
This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

Wonderful Tale of Struggles for Freedom in a New World.
Revisado: 06-05-24
As with many of Ken Follett's novels, the development of strong characters pitted against forces of greed, corruption, privilege and power are woven into a complex historical tale. While the plot development was fast paced and predictable, the challenges of individuals to live more freely in new environments were set forth in a narrative filled with hope, desire, adventure and human struggles. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this inspiring quest for freedom.

Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Wager... a story of survival, betrayal, retribution, cover-up and redemption?
Revisado: 01-05-24
Listening to this carefully researched tale, one can appreciate David Grann's skill of bringing almost forgotten naval history to life. We can certainly value the lessons learned that can be applied to struggles found in today's world of trauma, deceit, and loyalty.
