So impressed with this YA novel
Revisado: 06-14-24
If you’ve known loss and heartache. If you enjoy knowing when people are more than what they project to the outside world, especially when they are in high school or have been through something rough (i.e. if you enjoy a good back story) and you love a good story, this is for you.
P.S. Richly enjoyed the narration as well as the story! Bravo to the cast as well.

It’s so nice to slip into a story that’s done well! The Choices We Make has well developed characters and an engaging storyline. Sad it’s an Audible Original if that means it will have a limited audience. Enjoy!

Make this into a movie, please! Well done all around. While I was sympathetic to such human experience in the first place (hence the interest in reading the book) I found the author’s handling of the *various* details and back stories to really be helpful in eliciting a new kind of understanding, empathy, and compassion. Relatable. Heartbreaking. A work of art and social justice. Oh, and the narration was PERFECT! Bravo ladies!

Historia
In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep. Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of.

Revisado: 05-01-21
Excellent writing. Excellent audio performance! Will be looking for more from both the amazingly talented author and narrator! Thank you for an exquisite experience!
My 14 year old daughter and I kept stopping the story to marvel at how brilliantly rich and uniquely skilled the writing was. Moreover, listening to Steve West really bring to life the characters, adding so much to their depth and emotion (even the females!), was like curling up by the fire with a warm beverage in hand and being taken on an imaginative journey. Yes, his narration is like that. Like warm, hot chocolate by the fireplace. Enjoy!

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

One of the most worthwhile reads...ever.
Revisado: 02-21-20
This is seriously a must read. It is so well written, it reads like a truly decent fiction novel, which is a compliment to the author!!!
There is also a movie coming out about about this, but honestly, it could logistically only tell half of the true stories in this book. (Disclaimer: I haven’t seen the movie yet.)
This should be added as required reading to all high school curriculums, and the rest of us outside of high school should be required to read it to catch up!
This book depicts a part of American history that most of us white people probably have little to no idea about. We should ALL read it, because we should all know the stories of the people in Mr. Stevenson’s account...every last one of them. Decide in the end what we each individually will, we should at least know what we are talking about.
I am thankful that Mr. Stevenson miraculously carved out the time to write these histories among all of the other important work he has done, they are for the benefit of those in his stories, but also for the benefit of us all.

For anyone, a mother in particular, who has sought after her role in life
Revisado: 01-22-20
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but once I got used to how the story was being told, I just sat back and enjoyed a very well written, relatable life story. I respect how well Ms. Obama navigated the delicate waters of discussing her husband’s political story. She was, however, telling her own story and I found a lot of meaning in that.
For any spouse or parent who has grappled with their evolving place in their own lives, their marriage, their professional life, greater ambitions and their identity as a whole, all the while doing their part in managing a family along with all of the above, it seems this book is for you. It is also a history book, the most enjoyable one I have ever read.
Sit back and relax while she tells her tale. It’s worth it.

Revisado: 10-24-17
Wonderful story about an awful part of human history that perhaps too many of us in the US are too ignorant of. The story is gripping, well written, complex, and very interesting as it moves through this dark human history from so many perspectives.
The narrator is one of the best. Really. I wish she read me all of my books. Her voice is easy to listen to, very clear, and as far as I can tell, spot on in reading the French and Khmer/Cambodian words as well as perfect English. To my untrained ear, granted, she sounds like a native speaker in each tongue. (For reference, I am a native English speaker.) Hope this helps.
PLEASE MAKE THE MOVIE!
