Historia
The orphaned Elsie Camden learned as a girl that there were two kinds of wizards in the world: those who pay for the power to cast spells and those, like her, born with the ability to break them. But as an unlicensed magic user, her gift is a crime. Commissioned by an underground group known as the Cowls, Elsie uses her spellbreaking to push back against the aristocrats and help the common man. Elite magic user Bacchus Kelsey is one elusive spell away from his mastership when he catches Elsie breaking an enchantment. To protect her secret, Elsie strikes a bargain.

100% Excellent Story, 50% Excellent Narration
Revisado: 05-13-23
Another delightful story by one of my favorite magical writers. Half the narration was lovely, but unfortunately the narration of chapters from the male character’s POV were difficult to endure.

Historia
Days before she is to take her place as a shield maiden, like her mother before her, two deaths alter the course of Liv’s future. One belonged to a witch who called her by name, the other a chieftain from the north. Vengeance for the chieftain’s death comes in a wild fury that burns her village and slaughters her family. Left for dead, Liv pleads to Skuld - norn and weaver of the future - to spare her. A deal is struck that will endow her with the dark magic needed to claim her vengeance. But this power comes at an unfathomable price....

Norse Gods, Goddesses, Heroes, and Heroines
Revisado: 07-31-21
When I started reading this book, I had no idea what to expect; I didn’t know the context or the setting. But I was drawn in to the story immediately, and the compelling characters lived and breathed and made themselves at home in my mind. Some of the Norse deities were familiar—Odin, Freya, Thor—but this story was my introduction to Skuld, the norn future weaver. Skuld’s magic gives our heroine Liv a chance at vengeance for unbearable losses. There’s a wee bit of romance, too. ;) I recommend.

Historia
From S. G. Redling, the author of the bestselling Flowertown, Dani a data analyst with an elite security firm, possesses the unnerving ability to read people by the trash they leave behind. Receipts, parking tickets, the detritus of daily life — if you leave it behind, she will figure you out. Her latest case involves high-tech industrial espionage at a corporation with ties to the military. But when a team of assassins sweeps through the firm, stealing all files and killing her coworkers, Dani narrowly escapes.

Thrilling!
Revisado: 09-25-19
After a quick introduction, the pace of SG Redling’s _The Widow File_ takes off at a dead run and doesn’t slow down for any of the many twists and turns. It’s an exciting and unpredictable story, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Historia
Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

By the pricking of my thumbs / Something wicked this way comes
Revisado: 10-19-17
Hartley and Hewson’s brilliant re-imagining of the Scottish play brings a new depth and complexity to characters and situations we thought we knew well. The MacBeths are intriguing as a sympathetic couple who have good intentions yet suffer for their tragically bad decisions. Alan Cummings performs the audio beautifully.

Historia
Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes.

Achingly Lovely
Revisado: 05-10-16
Patrick Rothfuss writes and narrates a mysterious and shy character into an achingly lovely life. I found myself longing for her simple and clarified existence in which she intuitively--and maybe a bit mystically--sets things right. Her brokenness is a soothing shade of perfection. Thanks, PR. This story was for me; maybe you have more than a bit of Auri in you, setting your readers' spirits to rights.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
