Historia
When Andrew McCarthy's eldest son began to take his first steps into adulthood, McCarthy found himself wishing time would slow down. Looking to create a more meaningful connection with Sam before he fled the nest, as well as recreate his own life-altering journey decades before, McCarthy decided the two of them should set out on a trek like few others: 500 miles across Spain's Camino de Santiago. Over the course of the journey, the pair traversed an unforgiving landscape, having more honest conversations in five weeks than they'd had in the preceding two decades.

An excellent story of a father/son journey.
Revisado: 11-22-23
I am very fond of northern Spain, and I’ve read a couple other books about the “Camino.“ This was by far my favorite.
Andrew McCarthy is a wonderful writer, and the narration by Sam and Andrew made this tale of their 500 mile walk vivid.

Rediscovering Rilke
Revisado: 11-12-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Rilke was passionate and original. Listening to this book reminds me how much his work, "On Love and Other Difficulties," influenced me when I first read it 40 years ago.
What other book might you compare The Poet's Guide to Life to and why?
Works by Hesse, such as Siddhartha, and Demian.
What about Ethan Hawke’s performance did you like?
Precise and energetic--he leaps at every word with enthusiasm. I would probably enjoy his voice, even if he was reading the phone book.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
I love the way Rilke grounds ideas about the meaning of life in the visceral feelings of his body.

Historia
When Derek Sivers started CD Baby, he wasn’t planning on building a major business. He was a successful independent musician who just wanted to sell his CDs online. When no one would help him do it, he set out on his own and built an online store from scratch. He started in 1998 by helping his friends sell their CDs. In 2000, he hired his first employee. Eight years later, he sold CD Baby for $22 million. Sivers didn’t need a business plan, and neither do you.

a concise story from a generous entrepreneur

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. It's changed my thinking about the work I do. Also, after reading so many books that unnecessarily padded a few simples ideas in order to stretch them to book length, this was refreshing.
I also love the author's voice on this recording, which seems to convey a youthful energy and enthusiasm, free of ego.
What other book might you compare Anything You Want to and why?
Well, I liked Michael Port's book,
What does Derek Sivers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Great reading voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and that is rare.
