I can't even.
Revisado: 10-10-24
I haven't even gotten 5 chapters in and I just can't. The narrator gives everyone a rude and condescending mannerism to their voices. It's quite annoying. The chick is ha ing a conversation with her editor and she sounds like she hates him.
The story is weird. She has a tantrum like mentally unstable toddler and the guy tosses her in a pool then goes into her house, a woman he's never met, and makes horrible tasting smoothies, and the whole time BOTH of them are like, dang, you sexy. It makes no sense and I can not STAND when authors write in attraction too soon. They just met and he is intruding at her house. She NOT going to think, wow he's hot. She's going to think, WTF? I'm not safe!! Then she goes inside, with a stranger in her kitchen, and goes to take a shower?! NOPE. No woman in her right mind would get naked with a stranger in her house. She'd call the cops and have him arrested for trespassing. I don't care if he claims to be a producer or whatever. Not a thing. Nope. Sorry. Horrible story sp far. Not giving it any more of my time.

Nothing here is what it seems, and it isn’t long before Winter, feeling a surging power for the first time, realizes that she is not who—or what—she thinks she is.

Interesting plot, HORRID narration
Revisado: 12-27-23
The plotline is intriguing, a little too immature at times, but overall interesting. I can see the inspiration coming from places like Twilight and the Vampire Diaries, possibly even Harry Potter and a touch of Halloween Town.
The girl narrating the story is the WORST I have heard in a long time. She repeats a number of sentences, mispronounces so many, many words that I would think are basic to mid level, like Nova Scotia and the name Igor. It's honestly infuriating to hear her butcher so many words that are so common. I don't think there was ANY proofing after she recorded, there can't have been with how many times she butchers words.
She needs to be fired and educated. Sorry, not sorry.

Bohdi Patel is keeping the revelation that he is Chaos incarnate a secret - and handling the revelation about as well as one would expect. He's in a downward spiral: losing his lease, totaling his car, and trying to keep everyone he cares about at arm's length. Veterinarian Amy Lewis is wondering what happened to the funny, flirty, curious Bohdi she knew in the land of the Norns. He's become moody and sometimes cruel. She is definitely glad that she didn't become romantically entangled with him...most of the time.

The year is 2322. Humanity has expanded into the stars, inhabiting over 100 worlds across a third of the galaxy. Though thriving as never before, they have discovered neither alien life nor the key to utopia. Earth struggles to retain authority over far-flung planets and free-wheeling corporations while an uneasy armistice with a breakaway federation hangs by a thread as the former rebels rise in wealth and power.

Droning
Revisado: 04-16-21
I'm on chaper 4 and listening to the audiobook version. There is so much technical info-dumping and the narrator's voice is so bland and droning that it feel like I'm listening to a textbook. 50% this, Tungsten that, latitude this, atmospheric that... I'll update once farther into the book. Hopefully I didn't waste my money. It sounded promising when I bought it but so far it feels like someone is trying too hard. Sci-fi doesn't have to mean technobabble. Gimme the story! Even the narrator sounds bored af.

Simply incredible. JR Ward is a literary genius. Everything I have read by her has been pure gold. Keep doing what you do, girl. Hell yeah! HUGE fan of the BDB - and all books within the BDB world (including the insider's guide). Loved the firefighters of Consumed and now the highs, lows and intrigue of this one as well. Can't wait to read whatever book comes next! I know it's gonna be Lassiter in a**less chaps kind of FAAAABULOUSSSS!!

That accent tho...
Revisado: 08-09-20
I absolutely love these books. Hands down, without a doubt. But the narrator is killing me. I noticed it right from book one. They picked a British woman who does a god awful American accent. And every time she says "toots" I lose my cool. It's meant as a slang nickname for a woman, not a sound! Toots, like Tootsie roll, foot, book, hook. NOT like a horn honk or a GD fart!! No one noticed that in editing? Really?
Anyway, that's my only hang up. Otherwise I love it. She does a great job reading and I get really into the stories, it's only the awful American accent and the mispronounced words that get me. Everything else is amazing!!!

Left something to be desired.
Revisado: 10-01-19
Every once in a while I come across a really good story that catches me attention and grips it tightly until the bittersweet end. This, sadly, was not one of them. The narrations were great. I take issue with the story itself. It felt like something written by a horny teenager who has a modicum of writing talent. The leading female was a clueless dishrag of a ditz masquerading as a strong woman the whole story. And I don't have any issue with sex in stories, but I do have an issue with sex directly after traumatic experiences. Oh, and by the way, molotov cocktails don't explode, they shatter on impact causing the flammable fluid inside to spread which is what spreads the fire. So Zane easily could have caught that, rendering it useless. Pointless drama pretending to be the climax of the story. Lame.
