Cute, made me laugh…

I loved the characters in this book. The story was fun, believable, sweet. You never knew quite how Harriett and Chris were going to perceive the other, so true in new relationships trying to get to know one another. I love how Chris is always comfortable and sure of himself until he blunders and then his actions so heartwarming trying to set things right. I laughed out loud many times …great book! Helen Taylor is an amazing narrator. She and Rachel Anderson make a perfect listen.

Good storytelling, excellent choice of narration,

I liked learning something new about lesser known historical figures. It felt like a behind the scenes look at the lives and actions of the “not quite royal” and yet so close. It was interesting to hear about the strength and forbearance of a female in such a time of uncertainty. I liked how the author gave her such a positive mindset as she faced adversity throughout her life. It was an easy listen and trip back in time.

The combination of Donna Douglas and Penelope Freeman makes the perfect audiobook listening experience for me. I love the family, friends, (relationships of all kinds) as Donna Douglas writes them in difficult situations, so real and relatable with fortitude and humor. Penelope Freeman is delightful to listen to, every character distinguished, her voice always the right pitch and tone..like music. This was a wonderful read/listen with characters from past books reappearing in different life stages and struggles, so good to catch up…as well as the new. I enjoy reading British lifestyle and history and getting to know characters first hand from Donna Douglas is just fun!

Really good historical fiction with such wonderful, beautiful detail, many enjoyable characters, so well written - and superb narration! Simon Jones was delightful as narrator. The “Illuminator” new all time fav audiobook for me and I really hope there is more of the same to come from the Brenda Vantrease and Simon Jones team! Loved it!

I love the humor. All the family stories and relationship building so good. This series is definitely one of my favorites. Also, best narrator ever. Penelope Freeman has the most pleasant voices for all her characters!

Hidden gem

I don’t know how I stumbled on this series but all are so great. This was/is my favorite so far! Listening to Penelope Freeman is like music…voice like butter. She is amazing with all the accents and character building and has truly made these books come to life. The stories are fiction but real history and the setting is England WW1 and 2, hospitals, families, friends and foes. I love the interactions, relationship building, cute and funny characters. Great book!

Best story, so many well developed likable characters…

This is a keeper. I love everything about this story. The setting is Great Britain during early British /American revolutionary war time in which a family struggles with the loss of the “ all important” first son. The characters all come to life. There is romance, humor, realistic relationships among family and friends…a real story! No extremes, all cozy and interesting. It is so well written that you want it to be slow. I’m glad I took a chance on this book. The title intrigued me into giving it a try. The narrator was excellent…so many voices and great characterization of each. I hope there are more from this author!

What a great story told in the first person by an excellent narrator! I knew nothing about Constance of York, yet I was thoroughly engaged and kept on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed learning about someone I never knew existed and gained insight on the perspective of a female in this historic time period within this famous family narrative.

I loved this...

Captured my interest, hooked from chapter one. I listened to this while decorating the Christmas tree and it was easy to follow while I was busy with lots of other things. Excellent character development. Kiersten White introduced endearing new characters and shined her new creative light on some of our favorite old ones. This isn’t really a type of book I would normally choose except that I usually enjoy anything read by Elizabeth Knowelden, which is why I did....so glad I did. Can’t wait for the next book in the trilogy!
