Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

So obvious he never lived the life he claimed. He embellished everything to make himself look better. Taking your family down so you look smart never ends well.

Historia
From the woman who is credited for launching what we know as the celebrity focused, “brand” driven, social media obsessed popular culture of today, comes an honest and surprising memoir that reckons with that truth, and shows that there is so much more to Paris Hilton than you might believe. This extended edition includes a bonus chapter detailing her motherhood journey.

I just couldn't. She was over dramatic and not believable. She either is not in touch with her emotions or this is 95% made up. Either way it was a waste of time and money. Makes you feel for the people who really went through real trauma.

Historia
When Jane, a world-famous Harvard oncologist, suddenly collapses at work, the medical team resuscitating her makes a shocking discovery: she has advanced breast cancer that she’s been hiding for years. The results are catastrophic. In Sickness shows how even the most rational people can be nearly destroyed by their irrational fears. Tragic, moving, and wryly funny at times, this is an unflinching portrayal of a complicated marriage and its secrets.

Sad and uncomfortable
Revisado: 06-04-23
Quite frankly, the author shouldn't have written this book, in my opinion. He made he wife seem like a self centered narcissistic woman. The way he described her behavior prior to her diagnosis made her seem like a difficult person at best. I can't imagine staying with someone who treated my only child the way she did. I was hoping at some point, there would be an explanation as to why she was the way she was. If I were her family and/ or friend's I wouldn't forgive him. The, to add the epilogue about reconnecting with one of his old students who had the hots for him while he was dating his wife added to the insult. he remarried in less than 2 years. This isn't a love of your life book. It was too clinical and poor me. He could have gone so many different deep directions but kept it clinical and nasty. Wish I could unhear it.

Historia
In Broad Daylight tells the story of the killing of Ken Rex McElroy on the main street of Skidmore, Missouri, in July 1981. McElroy, an illiterate hog farmer, had terrorized all of northwest Missouri for over 20 years, until the town, and even law enforcement, was terrified of him. McElroy was shot as he sat in his truck in front of the tavern. Over 45 men witnessed the shooting. Despite two eyewitness accounts and three grand jury investigations, no one has been prosecuted for the crime.

the story was very long and had a lot t of players . This was a true sd story which mad it more interesting. sometimes you just have to take care of things yourself when those in charge aren't. Reminds me of Trump building his casinos and refusing to pay the contractors. He drug it out in court so long the poor workers had no chance. Karma is reaL.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

classify as YA but still a great read for adults
Revisado: 12-18-20
Excellent book for everyone to read even though I believe it's YA. Eye opening to how many "small" things to one person can be a big thing to another person because of unintentional racism. Really drives the point home that you don't have to be racist to say something racist.

Don't listen if you fear Trump's not going to leav
Revisado: 11-16-20
This scared the crap out of me. We have 2 sets of people who live in alternate reality. I don't like Trump and don't believe he does anything that doesn't benefit him but my husband worked on his now bankrupted Casinos so we got to see him pre apprentice. I think old Boomers believe he is a businessman and not a reality star. Bet he's broke in 2 years. Hopefully dies before he can run in 2024. He's made a horrible mess of our country with QAnon and ridiculous conspiracy theories.

I love Karl and the way he argues his logic with Ricky and Steve. He's deadpan serious and Ricky just points out why he is wrong.
