An amazing start to a new series. I was enthralled from start to finish. A cutesy magical girl with godlike powers is transfered to another world where she must discover what has become of her friends. A fast paced adventure that wraps everything up nicely and sets up book 2 without any agonizing cliffhangers or weird chops. At no point did it feel rushed. The side characters didn't get fleshed out massively but the interactions with them never felt shallow or superficial, just enough to flavor the story nicely. Good mix of story and combat. A sailer moonish feel to it but adult. How can it not with a move like the.....Twisting Fishhook. That made me clench my butt and to pray it would never happen to anyone ever. Good read, worth the time and money.

I'ma start by saying this isn't a bad* book but....

1. The stats don't matter at all, remove them and nothing would change.

2. this feels like a book 2, the MC starts at like lvl 10 and it skips over and never goes into detail why they joined the army beyond, I wanna kill shit, how they got there, how they got this super awesome ability that everyone would kill for but never does anything other than a glorified quest marker, or much of anything really is explained, ever.

3. the book is one endless fight scene, the author seems to skip over key details like, location, strategy, how the MC even arrived at the fight, like he just seems to arrive next to the leader of an army insults them and kills them. no description how he got past the rest of the entire enemy army. I suppose we could assume the enemy leader was just standing there alone picking his nose, which, honestly seems to be the case.

4. what is actually happening? seriously. Spoiler alert** mc joins army to kill stuff, he kills stuff, he supposedly gets stronger?, kills stuff, gets promoted, kills stuff, rages at everyone, kills stuff, somehow doesn't get insta killed even though everyone around him is, kills stuff, kisses a woman, books over.
....
Again this isn't a bad* book but it really isn't good either. maaaaybe book 2 will be better, idk, maybe I'll find out if I have nothing better to do than watch paint dry.

A fantastic continuation of the series. lots of shenanigans abound. hard to review without spoiling it as sooo many plot lines start and ends. still not a fan of Cal but love the book and you will too

A lot of authors in this genre extend out the series until it morphs into something completely different, squeezing out every last drop they can. melody of mana is a series I would wish was longer but the author did a fantastic job of wrapping up the series with a heartfelt conclusion, leaving little to want. fare thee well Alana.

In our final installment we get more of the spot we love. On one hand, this epic conclusion could be considered "rushed", but in truth the author did what many littpg authors cannot, satisfyingly concluding a series before it becomes droll and loses its identity. Worth every second spent and every dime from series start to finish

A lot of books are described as grimdark or edgy and then halfway through the book the MC is cavorting about saving kittens and orphans while they have an emo inner monologue about how bad they feel about stepping on a flower. The systemic lands is reminiscent of those dark series where the strong survive at any cost like The Black Company or First Law series. This is a tale of one man who is thrown into a survival of the fitest situation but is certainly not. He must be ruthless, brutal, and willing to do anything to survive, even if that means murdering hundreds, to stay ahead before they come for HIS head. Michael is not an antihero, he will not be saving a slave girl who melts his cold heart, nor will he share power that he rightfully won. It is his way or the grave. Only those with steel balls read this tale. Read, enjoy, and anticipate what comes next...

I enjoyed book one but was not a fan of all the accents being used for the races, however I stuck with it as I enjoyed the story. This time around... the narrator ratcheted it up with goofy voices and no reprieve from all the thick accents. reading the story vs listening to it was completely different, the narrator turned it into a goofy parody.

Don't Get Attached to the Protagonists

I am writing this review after having read all through book 6 so others don't make a similar mistake. Many reviews here talk about how crazy op the Protagonists are so I won't harp on that too much but definitely a bit silly how few the obstacles are that they encounter. Like with how many people they infuriate, why has a more powerful person not come by and stomped them like an ant, as they are doing in every realm they encounter? Doesn't make a lotta sense especially considering they essentially threaten/blackmail/murder some pretty powerful people. not to mention the arrogance. our "heros" and their allies essentially turn into bullies and in any other series would be the villains. my largest issue with the series is that as the books go on, they become less and less about the 2 main protagonists. In book 6, maaaybe a 3rd actually is about Rugrat and Eric and more about random people you are not gonna give half a rats butt about. I can understand wanting to cover world building and that requires jumping to different people but why? why spend 2/3rds of your books going on and on about the side characters? if it was relevant sure, I'd understand but I do not need a round by round narrative about a tournament that a side-side-character is fighting in. it is filler to puff up the book. and if the issue is the author can't fill an entire book about Rugrat and Eric, combine books instead of arbitrarily making part 1 and part 2 . if I was more cynical I'd say it was a money grab because once you get a couple more books in the filler gets awful and your not gonna care about any of the side characters at all. read the Wikipedia summary and you'll spend less money and be less angry after.
