Have loved all Lucy Walker books for 40 plus years. Am thrilled Audible has four of them and praying for more.

A sweet story, good narrators, and totally unnecessarily ugly, vile, and vulgar language, indicating that the author needs lessons in the English language and a good Thesaurus to overcome her obviously cloacal upbringing. I downloaded from Audible Plus and thankfully did not purchase.

Easy listening. No vulgar sex or language. No egregious stupidity. Gentle flow first to last. Summer literary candy.

Superior narration. Good writing and plots. No vulgar language. Marked down because of gratuitous and unnecessary sex; added nothing to the story telling or plots; just distracted from and tainted otherwise thoroughly enjoyable characters and reading experiences.

No charm. Very ragged non-plot. No character development. Highly inappropriate and unnecessary physical scenes. Barely one-dimensional. Waste of time and money. Returning for refund at once.

Narrator ruins the book.

All the delights of Joan Hess' wonderful writing and laugh-out-loud characters and plots set in a tiny, tongue-in-cheek Arkansas village are ruined by the harsh oral language of the narrator, making the people and events as grating on the willing suspension of disbelief as the narrator is on the ears. My first book not narrated by the incomparable talent and intonation of Kristin Kalbli--and my last! I did not finish this one and returned it for credit. I felt as if the characters had died in the complete miscarriage of the formerly flawless narration. From an Arkansas resident

A good idea that does not fulfill its promise

Gratuitous vulgar language, not quite every other word but nearly. Limp plot that never grows into even fictional flesh and blood dimensions. Settings that repel rather than attract. Characters with no redeeming values or qualities, even--no, especially the main two. Dismal.

Cliches abound. No character development of any depth. Superficial. Predictable. Culprit identified at first appearance in story. Boooooor-ring! Will return.
