This story’s main theme is a continuation of a modern woman’s perspective of the Victorian Age. The upper class exploits the poor, especially poor women. The societal contrasts show both how far we have evolved, but sadly how much we have to go toward equality. Right now our society in the US is going backward.
As in the first two books the heroine detective continues her daring police work in the Victorian Age. Her new family and their police friend work hand in glove to solve crimes. Ironically their status and attitude allow her to be her true self in a world where women have few choices.

The story moves right along sweeping up the listener. I was never bored. The characters and the historic time are intriguing. The mystery itself always had my attention with its twists and turns.

Now I have a much greater sense of what it is like to be under public scrutiny for an entire lifetime. The yellow press treats the royal family like their own personal revenue source. No concern is given to regard them as real humans with personal needs. Best of luck to Prince Harry and his family.

A real life soldier during the Nazi invasion of the USSR, the main character shares a gripping story. Her training as a sniper and her experience as an attractive young woman in a male dominated milieu are well depicted. Her evolution as a dedicated combatant and finally as a sort of diplomat present a fascinating life. She played a real role in bringing the allies together to defeat the Nazis. The fictional last bit of sniper work in the book although maybe unnecessary, did give a tense culmination to her story.

Fascinating to read how the main character solved his problems to stay alive. In spite of his perilous situation he made really funny remarks that cracked me up.

Lots to learn or relearn with this related experience. While annoyed by the author's picky attitude at the beginning, I began to appreciate her interactions with nature and caring people. I am inspired by anyone who sees promise in our world and shows ways each of us can improve it.
