A great third book in the series. The story is as lovely and entertaining as the previous books, and here we finally get a closer look at the sapphics lives in Victorian London, which is a delightful cherry on top of a heartfelt love story. All the characters of the series now feel like old good friends to me, and I hope to meet them again in a next book! Looking forward to new books of the author.

Historia
London, 1885. David Forester and Noah Clarke have been best friends since boarding school. All grown up now, clever, eccentric Noah is Savile Row’s most promising young tailor, while former socialite David runs an underground queer club, The Curious Fox. Nothing makes David happier than to keep the incense lit, the pianist playing and all his people comfortable, happy and safe until they stumble out into the dawn. But when the unscrupulous baron who owns the Fox moves to close it, David’s world comes crashing down.

Historia
It’s 1857, and anxious debutante Beth has just one season to snag a wealthy husband, or she and her mother will be out on the street. But playing the blushing ingenue makes Beth’s skin crawl and she’d rather be anywhere but here. Gwen, on the other hand, is on her fourth season and counting, with absolutely no intention of finding a husband, possibly ever. She figures she has plenty of security as the only daughter of a rakish earl, from whom she’s gotten all her flair, fun, and less-than-proper party games.

Historia
The city of Astreiant has gone crazy with enthusiasm for a new play, The Drowned Island, a lurid farrago of melodrama and innuendo. Pointsman Nicolas Rathe is not amused, however, at a real dead body on stage and must investigate. A string of murders follow, perhaps related to the politically important masque that is to play on that same stage.

good story
Revisado: 06-15-22
Good story, even better than the first one. Though I think that my favorite is still the short prequel. Nevertheless, detective storyline was entertaining, main characters and their relationships appealing and enjoyable, even if I would have preferred slightly more emphasis on the last. The only thing a bit frustrating was the main conflict. It’s cool when authors make villains somewhat relatable, but not gonna lie this villain’s reasons were too much appealing lol was hard not too root for him

Historia
Di Canzio follows their story past the end of Maurice to the front lines of battle in World War I and beyond. Forster, who tried to write an epilogue about the future of his characters, was stymied by the radical change that the Great War brought to their world. With the hindsight of a century, di Canzio imagines a future for them and a past for Alec—a young villager possessed of remarkable passion and self-knowledge.

Historia
In the first novel of an explosive new series from K. J. Charles, a young gentleman and his elegant mentor fight for love in a world of wealth, power, and manipulation. When he learns that he could be the heir to an unexpected fortune, Harry Vane rejects his past as a radical fighting for government reform and sets about wooing his lovely cousin. But his heart is captured instead by the most beautiful, chic man he’s ever met: the dandy tasked with instructing him in the manners and style of the ton.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-10-21
I’d like to start with the declaration of my undying love for KJ Charles and her works. I’ve read most of her books by now, and all of them are wonderful with marvelous characters and captivating plots.
…except for this one.
Really, I don’t know whether it is possible to find a more unlikable character than Harry (at least among those whom we are supposed to like). I really, really can’t relate to a 23 y.o. man who was an activist most of his life and decided to turn his back on his cause without a second thought for luxurious life of an aristocrat. Oh maybe I could, if he was presented cynical to his core, or if we saw, like, SOME emotional turmoil from the start, idk. He was printing materials about the government’s crime for years, why, for god’s sake, he is so surprised when people close to the government turn out not to be angels? He looks as a hypocrite and a coward, I am sorry, I really tried to find something redeeming in this character, but could not. Would rather read about his parents, seem to be really interesting people. (The other mc is marvelous though, I am very sorry that I could not enjoy him properly.)
And I am not saying that every book should be political, but THIS book raises the issues of political opposition, protests and government oppression, and then asks us to relate to a character who turns his back on all this and is not even brave enough to confess to himself what he is doing? Really? I think, the only way for him to redeem himself would go to the barricade at the end of the book. Spoiler: he does not to that.
So, not my cup of tea.
