Historia
Here is one of the best historical novels ever written. Lame, stammering Claudius, once a major embarrassment to the imperial family and now emperor of Rome, writes an eyewitness account of the reign of the first four Caesars: the noble Augustus and his cunning wife, Livia; the reptilian Tiberius; the monstrous Caligula; and finally old Claudius himself. Filled with poisonings, betrayal, and shocking excesses, I Claudius is history that rivals the most exciting contemporary fiction.

I was skeptical because of the lack of reviews but the book blew me away. So. Informative and well written. I’m very sad there is not more by Dr. Ryan on Audible! Bravo!

Historia
In ancient Rome, all the best stories have one thing in common - murder. In one 50-year period, 26 emperors were murdered. But what did killing mean in a city where gladiators fought to the death to sate a crowd? In A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Emma Southon examines a trove of real-life homicides from Roman history to explore Roman culture, including how perpetrator, victim, and the act itself were regarded by ordinary people. Inside ancient Rome’s darkly fascinating history, we see how the Romans viewed life and death and what it means to be human.

Too much extra nonsense
Revisado: 11-03-21
Why does the author feel the need to constantly swear? Is she not aware that it makes her seem less intelligent and adds NOTHING to this book? Ugh so irritating I can barely listen. Keep your opinions and your swearing to yourself and deliver some history, that’s why I’m listening after all.

Gorgeous
Revisado: 08-28-19
This is one of the most beautifully written, delightfully narrated novels I have ever had the pleasure to read. I am picky to almost a fault...but this stunning book (and superb narration) left me so hungry for more! I can’t wait to devour every single one of Madeline M’s other books I am now a forever fan. I will (from now on) be forever searching for ANYTHING that compares to the gorgeous painting this book left in my mind. It’s truly a masterpiece.. I am completely confounded by anyone who isn’t absolutely in love with it. I wish more people would tell me books it reminds them of so I can chase the dream! :)
