Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Now THIS is how you narrate a memoir.
Revisado: 05-09-24
There are some memoirs where the author sounds like they’re reading someone else’s story. Worse yet, they sound like they’re doing a cold read of something they’ve never seen before.
This audiobook should be the standard, to which all other memoirs are compared. Whoopi’s story is compelling on its own, but her flawless narration is icing on the cake. Whoopi’s conversational narration made me feel like she was sitting with me sharing her life story. We’re friends in my head now.

Brilliant composer, smooth soul singer, killer drummer, and charismatic band leader Morris Day has been a force in American music for the past four decades. In On Time, the renowned funkster looks back on a life of turbulence and triumph, chronicling his creative process with an explosive prose that mirrors his intoxicating music. A major theme throughout the book is Morris' enduring friendship and musical partnership with Prince.

Great story, so-so narration
Revisado: 12-30-19
Morris's approach to storytelling is intriguing. I love it! The director and narrator really dropped the ball on this audiobook. I am more than annoyed by the narrator's voice choice when portraying Prince. A huge faux pas occured when the narrator read the song title 777-9-3-1-1 instead of 777-9311. I may have to buy this book in print in order to finish it.

Historia
From her early years in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her rise to fame alongside Ike Turner to her phenomenal success in the 1980s and beyond, Tina candidly examines her personal history, from her darkest hours to her happiest moments and everything in between. My Love Story is an explosive and inspiring story of a woman who dared to break any barriers put in her way. Emphatically showcasing Tina’s signature blend of strength, energy, heart, and soul, this is a gorgeously wrought memoir as enthralling and moving as any of her greatest hits.

Fascinating story, so-so narration
Revisado: 10-24-18
When I first heard about this memoir, I quickly submitted my preorder. I wish I would have waited until the release date and listened to the preview. The narrator's cadence distorted the meaning of the text. From beginning to end, I had to restate the sentences in my head while listening to this book. It was painfully obvious that someone else was reading this book.
I have listened to other memoirs, not read by the author, with narration that was so engaging and consistent with the author's style that I believed the author telling their own story. My favorite examples are "Universal Tone" by Carlos Santana, read by Johnathan Davis, "Sing To Me..." by LA Reid, read by Dion Graham, and "My Life With Earth Wind and Fire", by Maurice White, read by Dion Graham.
If you have a choice between the print version and Audible, GET THIS BOOK IN PRINT! At some point I will probably buy a hard copy so "hear" Tina tell her love story in my mind.

Historia
In his three decades of recording, Prince has had nearly thirty albums hit the Billboard Top 100. He is the only artist since the Beatles to have a number one Album movie, and single at the same time. Prince’s trajectory - from a teenage unknown in Minneapolis to an idol and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer - has won him millions of adoring fans. Prince is the first book to give full treatment to this thirty-year career of epic proportions. Acclaimed music journalist Ronin Ro traces Prince’s rise from anonymity in the late 70s, to his leap to stardom in the 80s, to his 21st-century reemergence....

The word is ALBUM not alblum
Revisado: 02-26-16
The story itself was okay but considering the subject, hearing the word album mispronounced sooooo many times was annoying. The song "Anastasia" was pronounced "Anesthesia" TWICE!!! The reader, director, and editor of this audio book should find another line of work. There were so many flaws in this performance that I think the recording should be redone.
