Historia
The fateful first meeting of Enza and Ciro takes place amid the Italian Alps at the turn of the last century. Still teenagers, they are separated when Ciro is banished from his village and sent to hide in New York's Little Italy, apprenticed to a shoemaker, leaving a bereft Enza behind. But when her own family faces disaster, she, too, is forced to emigrate to America. Though destiny will reunite the star-crossed lovers, it will, just as abruptly, separate them once again - sending Ciro off to serve in World War I, while Enza is drawn into the glamorous world of the opera.

The vivid descriptions of the Italian Alps.

I loved the audio performance, having read the book before I got so much more out of the audio reading. It made the experience so much more engaging.
The story itself is moving, but sometimes feels a bit forced.
All in all I recommend this book to anyone that loves historical fiction.

Ok story, weak predictable ending
Revisado: 04-19-05
I enjoyed much of the book, but felt very little developement for such an interesting time period.
And the ending was weak, made it difficult to really be able to recommend as a satisfying listen.
