A thousand miles from her native Poland, with no money and the odds stacked against any woman daring to pursue a career in such a rigorous field, Marie throws herself into her studies. A better title
Revisado: 03-04-19
Would have been "Madame Curie, The College Years". The story skips around chronologically with little segue, which was irritating. It is almost entirely about how she got into college, how she supported herself at college, and a lot about her romance with her future husband while at college. There is a little about her childhood, but almost nothing about her life after marriage or her work on radioactivity. It was, in my opinion, a lot less interesting than it could have been. But, it was only an hour and fifteen minutes long, so I guess something had to be left out. At least it was free.

There is no ending
Revisado: 09-17-18
Way too much of the book is the childhood, young adulthood, and general life stories of two guys who are the leads at the end of the book. This history part of the guys' lives is kind of boring

More of a history or geography book
Revisado: 05-08-18
Way too much of the book is a narrative written in past tense, which makes the action seem boring and the lead character seem like a robot. It is great if you want to learn about the history of Middle East tensions in a fiction book, but it is not a thriller/suspense book.

Historia
Iggy is a dog who doesn’t get out much, so it’s big news when elderly Mr. Parsons knocks on Bernie’s door to say that Iggy has vanished. In the search for Iggy, Chet and Bernie find Mrs. Parsons unconscious on her bedroom floor, in need of urgent medical care. But it’s only when they arrive at the hospital that things get really interesting. With a jewel thief making short work of hospital patients’ valuables, it seems that Iggy is not alone in disappearing right out from under somebody’s nose. Suspects are plentiful and witnesses are few.

Historia
Spencer Quinn’s first original audio short story reveals how everyone’s favorite detective duo - Chet the Dog and P.I. Bernie Little - came to meet before their first big case in Dog On It. As fans know, Chet first met Bernie on that fateful day when he flunked out of K-9 police school. The details of that day, though, have always remained a little vague (like so much in Chet’s doggy brain). All we know is that Chet had been the best leaper in his K-9 class, but for some reason he failed his final leaping test...and that a cat was involved...and that there was some blood. But whose?

Way overpriced
Revisado: 12-16-17
Even on sale, these one-hour long short stories are ridiculously more expensive than the full-length version. I enjoyed the story and performance a lot but after doing the math of cost per hour of entertainment, I felt really ripped off.

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-18-17
I have read all the books in this series and am working my way through the audio books. I was excited to get to this audio book, because it is my favorite story in the series. The first four audio books had a man speaking Michelle's part. I had gotten used to (and enjoyed) Michelle's "voice" as it was done by the male speaker. In this book, they had a woman speak Michelle's part for the first time, and I didn't at all like Michelle's voice suddenly turning from a sultry, athletic sounding voice (as played by the man) to a grating, fake southern-accented snob (as played by the woman). I really started to dislike Michelle because she sounded so superior and snooty. Way to ruin a great series. I could barely finish it I was so annoyed.

unlikely dialog
Revisado: 06-28-17
What disappointed you about Fool Me Once?
The female character was ridiculously bossy and rude, and more amazingly, all her friends jumped to do her bidding without demanding any answers when she pressed them into do things like break the law. I seriously disliked the main character and there is no way conversations would go the way they were written. They were all extremely one-sided, and even the cops investigating her husband's murder bent to her will.
What could Harlan Coben have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The first 90% of the book needed to be rewritten, so you didn't just think the lead character was a total jerk. The supporting characters' submissiveness was highly unbelievable. And the way the lead character gushed about everything related to her daughter seemed way out of character with her tough guy personality.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
I absolutely hated the way the narrator over enunciated the word 'yes'. She did this with every character, making the word sound extremely snide and condescending. The voice she chose for the main character was too snooty.
Any additional comments?
The only reason I didn't give one star overall was because the ending was pretty good.

Weaving together historical examples, scientific studies, and compelling court cases - from the border collie put on trial in Kentucky to the five teenagers who falsely confessed in the Central Park Jogger case - Benforado shows how our judicial processes fail to uphold our values and protect society's weakest members. With clarity and passion, he lays out the scope of the problem and proposes a wealth of reforms that could prevent injustice and help us achieve true fairness and equality before the law.

In its bias toward defendants. Very little mention is made of the injustices prosecutors and victims face. Many good points and interesting facts. The performance seemed heartfelt/passionate.
