Historia
No one told witch Selene Bowers having a soul mate would be so difficult. Nor did they warn her that he might be a vengeful, ancient sorcerer who would frame her for murder, force her to remember a past life he swears she lived, and then coerce her into an unbreakable marriage pact. But that’s exactly what happens the night of the Samhain Ball, when Selene finds herself in a jail cell. After waking from enchanted sleep, Memnon swore to discover why Selene betrayed him long ago.

Finally a good sequel
Revisado: 02-07-25
While I took a little issue with the romance in the first book, this feels far better. An engaging story, the characters are mostly more fleshed out, though the plot armor is still quite thick. I don’t love that it ends on a cliffhanger, but oh well.

Good story, weird romance
Revisado: 02-05-25
This could have been a fantastic YA book with it’s very human heroine and a good plot. The romance with Memnon feels a little weird and forced and like it doesn’t quite belong. I ended up rolling my eyes a few times over the “Can’t they just communicate?”
Maybe the second book will redeem the relationship.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Engaging story
Revisado: 11-03-24
I went into this based on a friend’s recommendation, fully expecting it probably wasn’t for me. I was wrong. The reluctant hero pulls you in and keeps you wondering. A nice, little book for some light entertainment. I will admit that the techy space jargon got me a bit confused now and again, but nothing that pulled me out of the story.

Historia
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

Redemption arch
Revisado: 10-24-24
A really engaging story! I love how many badass women this story has, and it’s almost always moving forward. The male main character’s mostly level head and kind heart is also a redeeming factor.
However, as well-told as it is, I can never quite love the female main character, but kinda end up cheering for her anyway. Certain elements demand you stretch your belief kinda far (I have rolled my eyes once or twice).
I don’t personally care for the narrator in this one, most of it is really good, but she also seems to “over-act” quite frequently.
Would I recommend it, though? Yeah - it’s an entertaining read, and you get hours of entertainment from this one.

Bittersweet (We need more Vran!)
Revisado: 10-16-24
As always, Slayton delivers an engaging story that keeps you turning the page (you know, the Audiobook-way).
As much as you won’t be rooting for the main character to succeed in this one, you’re gonna love all the characters (including him) and wish them well. (Chaos monkey emo elf will forever be my favorite.)
You’ll think you have it all figured out somewhere in the middle, and it feels mostly like a warm and fuzzy read despite the dark undertones. However, I’m here to tell you to fasten your seatbelt for an entire rollercoaster of twists and turns and loops.
I wasn’t entirely prepared for “all the feels” in this one, and I’m still recovering - but I will 100% listen through it again.

The perfect blend of twists and comfortably predictability
Revisado: 08-22-24
Loved everything about this one! I love how all the Dresden books have multiple, seemingly unrelated things going on, and what you’d think would be the climax of the story is merely the beginning, leading up to something with even higher stakes. Great read!

Historia
When Phoebe, goddess of the moon, is killed by the knights of the sun god, Hyperion, all who follow her are branded heretics. With Phoebe gone, the souls of the dead are no longer ferried to the underworld, and instead linger on as shades who feast on the blood of the living. Raef is a child of the night. He lives in the shadows, on scraps, eking out a meager existence as a thief. But when an ornate box is sequestered in the Temple of Hyperion, the chance of a big score proves too great to resist. What he finds within propels him on an odyssey across the sea and back again.

Another great read from Slayton
Revisado: 11-06-23
After having devoured the Adam Binder-series (and come back to it more times than I’m ready to admit), “Dark Moon, Shallow Sea” has undoubtedly been my most anticipated read this year.
As per usual, David R. Slayton delivers.
His special brand of human emotions and motivations, the way his main characters are gentle souls with pure intentions without being any sort of pushovers, a captivating story in an fascinating world… This book came out less than a week ago, and I have already finished it twice.
I can’t put my finger on it, but Slayton has some sort of formula in his work for all the things I want in a book - I didn’t even realize a clever animal companion was one of those things until this one had it too.
If I had to say anything negative about this read at all, it’s that some of the “whispered” parts are a little hard to catch when you’re listening to an audiobook on the go, but I’m so happy to hear Michael David Axtell again that I’m not gonna take a star away over maybe five lines in the book.
Good work, gentlemen!

Making things that shouldn’t go together work
Revisado: 08-07-23
This series has kept me on the edge of my seat for most of it. While there’s certainly more deaths and destruction than I personally prefer, it’s part of what keeps you guessing, keeps you interested and keeps the story hard to predict. A wonderful story that mixes genres and elements I don’t think I’ve ever seen put together before and somehow making them work.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.
