Decent story more moving pieces than necessary

Victor is a great MC and the storyline is still pretty decent, but I got a feeling a few filler books are on the way which will not progress the greater storyline of settling things on their home planet or their new territories in the Marshes. Victor has been put in another place where he is at the mercy of more powerful people again. and this time it doesn't look like he will be more than an indentured servant. Which is a huge story-telling tool for this author. Slavery and Indentured servitude are the most overused tropes for the LITRPG genre right now. It's just sad to see with this story because as mentioned in this book Victor is a conqueror and I think the author is missing the opportunity to expand Victor's character in many in other ways. The MC can only have his head held under water by other people in the storyline for so long before the listeners start to lose interest.

I suggest layoff the suffering button for a little while, Push Victor's personality a lit bit more and grow/graduated his character and if you absolutely need some suffering add some permanent tragedy within his group I can think of one character within his immediate group which has played their part and are just along for the ride without adding tremendous value at this point..

Otherwise, the book is good, and it is worth a credit

Not the typical apocalypse story

This is a good story with some very small issues. The MC is slowly coming to grips with his personal losses as well as his responsibilities. The world-building is world-class with the introduction of additional character races and more problems. The pace of the book is well-developed and the author does a great job managing the other supporting characters. I'm looking forward to the next book. I don't regret using a credit on this book. If you are in between titles or just looking for something new The Fortfier series is not a bad buy.

Great addition to the series

The adventures of John and Ellie are always very good. John is his usual to the limit self and the supporting characters added alot of depth to the story. The book is easy to listen to because of Mr. Kramer's talents. lastly the story progression is very well paced and you can sense the end of the series approaching. I'm excited to get the next book. This book is worth the credit for a relaxing listen.

The book was very entertaining and i found nothing to dislike. the MC is very likable and not an idiot. The flow of the story was enjoyable and does not drag on without direction.

Good Storyline

This is a very good adaptation to a very traditional type story. Global apocalypse meets cultivation without all the meditation and absorbing cores. if you are the type of reader who gets frustrated with MC not making progress this is a book you want to listen to.

it was entertaining and exciting and I found it easy to listen to. Worth the credit. I can't wait till the next one.

To the author don't change a thing I think you just found a platinum mine.

Worth the Credit!!!!!

This was a good twist on a LitRPG. The leveling is similar to some obscure RPG's out there but I like the shard system it was refreshing. The MC is flawed but I think the Author has skillfully done this on purpose. The MC is also OP at times but the Author manages to frequently find ways to show you the MC is still venerable and can die just the same as anyone else. Basically if he fights a being lower level than him he crushes them and if he fights someone close to his level it is a good fight with effort and when he faces a being with a greater level he often gets his back broken. (no exaggeration) Which means his friends are very valuable to the story and they are not just side characters taken up space. He is truly a balanced character which a lot of Authors can't seem to get right.

I have over 500 titles in my library and I can't wait to add the rest of this series to that collection. This is a good series it is well written, a little corny and full of adventure and promise. If you are a seasoned listener you will enjoy this book because it is different from the cookie cutter stuff that the genre has been fill with over the last two years.

I don't know what I just listen to.....

First off the book started out really well I initially felt that we would get some loose ends tied off and the story would progress. I was wrong.... All we got was more intrigue which was just poorly put together.

There is a complete power reset for Hal everything we have learned about Hal's powers up to this point will be turned upside down. The supporting characters literally treat the most powerful person who hasn't tried to kill them like an eight-year-old. even though they themselves are damaged and need his help now even worse than they did in the first place. And to the author please find a friend (preferably a woman) to help you with the male-female intimate relationship aspects of the next book because you my friend are messing that up royally it is an easy fix but please get some help. There are new/old characters whose purposes are suspect and in some cases just extra with no apparent value added to the story.

So in conclusion the story does not progress much if any. At this point, I don't know that you will need to read this one to enjoy the next one. I'm not going to call this a filler book but I will say in my opinion it was very unfulfilling and the attempted cliffhanger at the end did not inspire me to look forward to the next book. BUT!!! if you are looking to pass some time it is worth a listen as a distraction but it will not blow you away with excitement.

I really Liked It!!

The story follows along some very similar plots and tropes of all post-intergration books. BUT!! the ultimate goal of the MC and the other characters in this book is completely different than the usual suspects. The first thing I would say to the author is King Maker book 1 could have and should have been a longer. I think the author left a lot of story untold and he missed some good opportunities to advance his MC development. Secondly after the ultimate goal is established there were plenty of other opportunities to move the overall plotline forward. The author took valuable time to introduce two other major competiotors to the ultimate prize and in some way he wrote their introductions in manner which would endear them to the listener but to me that style of writing was a turn off because I don't want to care about the bad guy. In this competition you are with the MC or you are against him. I don't care how honorable or how caring the other character is if he is going to challenge the MC he is just a roadblock. No One cares about the bad guys feelings. Now if after the bad guy has been dealt with and if the author wanted to humanize them a short reflective flashback of why the bad guy was acting the way he was is appropriate.
So in conclusion this is a good but not great book. You will find some plot issues but I don't think those issues really damage the story but if they were not there the book would have been better. I'm not sold on the series yet but I will buy the next book to see what the author can do. If you are in need of a gap filler or a distraction this is a good choice. There are much worse selections out there.

Not what I thought it was going to be.

The skill resets were interesting at first, but now Randily is basically the same MC with better emotional control. He understands everything around him is being manipulated. And the worst part is they are playing chess and he is playing hopscotch. The last 5 hours were revealing while at the same time slow going. Overall 3 stars but could have been soo much better. Im sitting here writing this trying to remember what purpose the first 10 had served.
