Historia
Raymond Bannister is a wealthy man living a secure life, but the day that he receives a single slipper in an envelope his world falls apart. He seeks out a place in the bad part of town—is he looking for his own demise? He is found slashed down in a dirty alleyway. The crime and the crime scene are inexplicable to Lestrade, and he seeks the help of his new consultant detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. This beginning will lead us back in time, to India, and it will lead us to the strange origin of a group of children that call themselves the Irregulars.

Intriguing spin on the characters
Revisado: 02-06-25
Took a while to rev up, but glad I stuck with it! Author does a good job of altering the characters and narrative in a believable and enjoyable way.

Simple and slow
Revisado: 11-08-24
KBM is a fantastic author (Heathcliff Lennox series) and I appreciate her creating a new series and characters. This series, however, is ploddingly slow with dialogue that does little to engage the reader. A fan of Ms. Marple, I expected to enjoy Isabel and have persevered through the first two books in this series. Alas, I won’t attempt another.

Historia
Every year Lady Repton opens up her grand estate to host 'Cherringfest' - the Cotswold's favourite music festival. And this year will be special, featuring not just the return of the legendary and infamous metal rock band, Lizard... but also the home debut of the young and wildly successful new group, Unlost. But what should be a summer weekend of fantastic music, food and fun for all, turns frightening when murder is threatened, and one performer is nearly killed. Soon Jack and Sarah are in a race against time, trying to untangle a web of jealousy, egos and revenge before this Cherringfest ends in a deadly climax.

Seeds of romance for Jack & Sarah?
Revisado: 08-15-24
They’re a great duo and this story has them in the fun venue of an outdoor weekend concert festival. The authors do a grand job of progressing the overall narrative of the community and especially the friendship of Jack and Sarah. Authors dropped hints of these two viewing one another a bit differently; I think the stage is finally set to see a bit of romance in the coming novelettes.

Solid enough
Revisado: 08-15-24
Story is well constructed and flows logically but never grabs the reader. The climax of the story isn’t strong enough to create much adrenaline or excitement. Seb and Birdie are likable characters and it’s a pleasant listen. The narrator does a good job varying his voice for the different characters.

Historia
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Mediocre
Revisado: 04-10-24
While I’m a big fan of Georgie, these last few novels are beginning to feel repetitive. This one, especially, has multiple redundant phrases and ideas. Bowen’s characters are becoming flat, predictable, and stereotypical.

Historia
Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Good read!
Revisado: 10-23-23
Thoroughly enjoyed the main character being half Chinese! The author brings a fresh perspective to this genre by having his amateur detective be the offspring of an Englishman and a Chinese woman. I think he did it well.
