depressing to have the entire galaxy be just awful

Supercarrier boxed set left me bored. It's one where all the humans in the galaxy are corrupt and all the aliens are innately against the one outmoded starship the Humans have left. Part way through the first book, the opposing forces are so overwhelming I just gave up. The starship is all shot to pieces with no hope of repair. Actually coming back from that is untenable. I didn't think I can take 3 1/2 more books of this.

Ross is a very versatile and creative writer. The series starts with God and angels, moves on to Satan, introduces wizards, Fae, and now the minor gods. Asking the way we learn a lot about the rich cast of characters. Then Nick Podel brings it all to life.

What other series has both Roman gladiators and hyper-advanced AI?

Ross goes places where others fear to tread. Most SF authors seem to embrace the idea that religious people are dead stupid. Ross writes intelligently in the vacuum that this prevailing bias creates. I have read one (1) other SF series that includes Angelic and Satanic elements, and it wasn't as good as this one. I think it's because he also includes everything else that happens in real life. Like AI and pizza.

For what it's worth, I think Ross handles Chaos vs Order in a valid way...

But this book is completely different from how L.E. Modessit Jr. addresses Chaos and Order in his Recluse series. Both are good, but the pacing is faster in these books, and Ross does more "showing" than telling. Nick Podel is fantastic as always.

Very intelligently written, with enough humor and pop-culture references that it stays fun. Still wondering if I should do the Patreon thing. This series is full of surprises, and it keeps going in interesting directions.

I personally like the perspective, but it is atypical for SF/Fantasy. Get past the intro for the real book.

In this book, God is real and takes an active role. But it's not a peachy book, except that Robert Ross seems to get on a soap box about how swearing is ok if you are a Catholic. Ah, well, I guess most authors have idiosyncrasies. Interesting plot lines, not too dark. Great narration, wish the cover art wasn't so eye-smashing.
