Historia
The Greatest Show on Earth is a stunning counterattack on advocates of "Intelligent Design," explaining the evidence for evolution while exposing the absurdities of the creationist "argument". Dawkins sifts through rich layers of scientific evidence: from living examples of natural selection to clues in the fossil record; from natural clocks that mark the vast epochs wherein evolution ran its course to the intricacies of developing embryos; from plate tectonics to molecular genetics.

Jo Nesbo has written some great books. The Kingdom is. .., I would have enjoyed many other endings. Perhaps that was what Jo Nesbo intended. That we reach come up with an ending that satisfies our own imaginations.

We lost in Afghanistan before we started,
Revisado: 09-10-21
Fighting a war in a country whose culture, traditions, history, religions and multiple languages we do not understand was a foolhardy mistake. Osama bin Laden accomplished his wildest dreams. Osama manage to destroy the democracy of the United States and make the United States on of the least trusted countries in the world. Our politicians and military leaders became accustomed to lying to the citizens of the United States and our former friends and allies around the world.
Everyone in the world should all thank President Biden for withdrawing the United States from Afghanistan. Going into Afghanistan was a mistake. Staying Afghanistan under Bush, Obama and Trump was a mistake. It took 20 tears and thousands of lives and trillion of wasted dollars for us to lean from our mistake. Leaving Afghanistan was inevitable.

Historia
An "epoch-defining book" (The Guardian) and "this generation’s Silent Spring" (The Washington Post), The Uninhabitable Earth is both a travelogue of the near future and a meditation on how that future will look to those living through it - the ways that warming promises to transform global politics, the meaning of technology and nature in the modern world, the sustainability of capitalism and the trajectory of human progress. The Uninhabitable Earth is also an impassioned call to action.

Not My Cup of Tea
Revisado: 02-23-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book is not an historical novel. It is absolute fiction. As fiction it is perhaps excellent. As history it is absolute b....
If you’ve listened to books by Bernard Cornwell before, how does this one compare?
Nope, never read or listened to another Bernard Cornwell book.
What does Jack Hawkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I would seek more books read by Jack Hawkins, his presentation is excellent.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
OK, I would probably go see the movie as an adventure/ action film. As an accurate portrayal of history it would be a waste of time.
Any additional comments?
Well read, well written, total time waster.

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Who reads is as important as who writes
Revisado: 01-21-10
This is a great book by a great writer. But...
Christopher Hitchens should not have been the reader. At times he reads as if he is bored with the material. The material in this book is never boring; but perhaps for the author it became old and he lost the ability to relay the true impact of his well crafted words. I would love to hear this book read correctly.

In this monumental and provocative history, Patrick Buchanan makes the case that, if not for the blunders of British statesmen - Winston Churchill first among them - the horrors of two world wars and the Holocaust might have been avoided and the British Empire might never have collapsed into ruins.

Revisado: 07-12-09
The one thing to take away from this book is to be very aware that articulate politicians are not the best thinkers or leaders.
For Buchanan to accuse Churchill of being a raceist is interesting. Perhaps Buchanan should look at his own words, and his website.

Historia
While reporting a story from India, New York journalist Patrick Wallingford inadvertently becomes his own headline when his left hand is eaten by a lion. In Boston, a renowned surgeon eagerly awaits the opportunity to perform the nation’s first hand transplant. But what if the donor’s widow demands visitation rights with the hand? In answering this unexpected question, John Irving has written a novel that is by turns brilliantly comic and emotionally moving, offering a penetrating look at the power of second chances and the will to change.
