Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Best parenting book I have ever read
Revisado: 02-14-25
Not only is this a good parenting book for all of us racing a child at any age, it’s a good wake up call for all of us to realize how at the mercy we are of these tech companies. I recommend everyone to read this. You will come away with a far greater understanding of how we are all slipping into a media – Cell Phone world. I’m not sure it can be arrested, but awareness is the first step.

Historia
Cyrus Shams is a young man grappling with an inheritance of violence and loss: his mother’s plane was shot down over the skies of the Persian Gulf in a senseless accident; and his father’s life in America was circumscribed by his work killing chickens at a factory farm in the Midwest.

Standing here shaking my head
Revisado: 09-04-24
I almost didn’t finish this book. There was a bit too much urine, drugs, and untenable storyline. I did enjoy the performance and some of the incidental history and fables. That is what gives this my two star rating. At times it was long and tedious. The coincidences at the end of the book we’re a little bit too much. I don’t want to ruin the plot for anyone but the ending was just a bit too bizarre. I realize the author is a poet, and although well written, this is just not my type of book. I picked it up because it was one of Obamas‘s books of the year. I’ll have to be careful about his recommendations.

Bad plot
Revisado: 06-06-24
I was so disappointed with this book. The reviews were good and I thought it was a terrible book. Mostly the plot. A bookstore that is alive?. A girl that can read people? I almost didn’t finish it but I hate to purchase something and not get to the end. I kept opening. It would have sum redeeming quality. It was not terribly written but not great. I’m just sorry I can’t get my money back.

Straight off the slopes and into the spotlight, Heather Gay is famous for speaking the gospel truth. Whether as a businesswoman, mother, or television personality, she is unafraid to blaze a new trail, even if it means losing family, friends, and her community.

Irritating story of bad choices
Revisado: 07-19-23
This was just an irritating story of someone who decides she doesn’t like where her life is ending up and drags her children on a journey to find herself. I made it about 3/4 of the way and had to stop. Leave your church if you are unhappy with it but don’t air your dirty laundry for the world and your sweet children to see. Horrible, horrible book.

Passionate, earthy, deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable contribution to modern fiction: a vibrant new perspective of female life in the age that shaped present day civilization and values.
If you like The Red Tent, try The Harlot by the Side of the Road, a recounting of some of the most startling and explicit writings from The Old Testament.

My least favorite audible reading.
Revisado: 07-03-23
First and foremost the narrator sounded like a young modern teenage girl telling her life story in high school. I could hardly get beyond that. That will teach me to listen to the preview next time. The other problem with this book is that it was written like a modern story. There was not enough historical context. I am absolutely shocked that it was so highly rated. A few years ago I read Orson Scott Card’s 3 novels, entitled the “Women of Genesis”. The first was on Sarah. The second was on Rachel and Leah, The third was on Rebecca. He is a renowned science-fiction author, and did an excellent job. researching and composing these historical fiction novels. The Red Tent was nowhere near the caliber of those three books. Read Card’s novels instead.

Historia
In this irresistibly imagined belowstairs answer to Pride and Prejudice, the servants take center stage. Sarah, the orphaned housemaid, spends her days scrubbing the laundry, polishing the floors, and emptying the chamber pots for the Bennet household. But there is just as much romance, heartbreak, and intrigue downstairs at Longbourn as there is upstairs. When a mysterious new footman arrives, the orderly realm of the servants’ hall threatens to be completely, perhaps irrevocably, upended.

Bad ending
Revisado: 02-10-23
Well written engaging book, but bad ending. Without giving the ending away it was too brief and highly improbable. So disappointed. Cannot recommend on the ending alone. It’s like the author ran out of ink.
