Historia
More than 700 years into its journey, a massive generation starship carries thousands of passengers to a new home that only their descendants - hundreds more years into the future - will live to see. Life aboard the ship is a daily struggle. One young welder copes by writing a series of letters to an Earth he never knew. The experiences he describes are not as exciting as the ancient works of science fiction made it out to be - but that is about to change. An eccentric old man has offered to train him for an unprotected spacewalk - a dangerous ritual known as “facing space”.

Interesting story, well done.
Revisado: 04-13-21
I must say I really liked the way the story is told, as a journal written buy a young boy . He is writing to us, and holds nothing back. As a story it is a good one, full of intrigue, and suspense. You have a hard time figuring out who the bad guys are, because everyone is doing what they are doing for good reasons. This is at the top of my favorite books, well worth the credit. I only wish it would continue with another book. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this reviewp

OK at the start, but boy it drags on.
Revisado: 04-13-21
I was enjoying the first book in the box set, but then it just gets slow and boring.I felt like the one character who was immortal and was board to tears. I did not care what happened to the three or the planet they were trying to save. Do not recommend there are a lot better listens to choose than this sleeper.

Historia
Search the Sky is a satirical science fiction novel set in the far future, at a time when humanity has long since colonized the stars. It begins on a planet called Halsey's, which is in a state of decline. When a Longliner generation ship arrives, having failed to make contact with at least six other colonised planets, Ross (the main protagonist in the story) is sent to investigate what is going on at the other colonies. He is given access to a faster than light spacecraft that can make each journey almost instantly.

A good listen
Revisado: 04-13-21
I read this book a long time ago so when I saw it was available in audible I thought I would give it a listen. It is a good book, not ground breaking but a good way to pass some time. Not as funny as I remembered but I was a lot younger when I first read it. I enjoyed the narration, very well done. I recommend this audio book if you have never listened or read it before, I think it is a lot better the first time around. Well worth a credit and a good time filler. But not much more, but isn’t that enough.. was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Historia
Frederik Pohl was on a streak when this Hugo Award-finalist novel was published in 1980. Now back in print after an absence of nearly a decade, this unique science fiction novel is as fresh and entertaining as ever. The story begins when the hero of Gateway finances an expedition to a distant alien spaceship that may end famine forever. On the ship, the explorers find a human boy, and evidence that reveals a powerful alien civilization is thriving on a transport ship headed right for Earth....

Gateway was great this is awful
Revisado: 12-20-20
I couldn’t make it past the 4th chapter, it is mean spirited, crude, just awful. There is not one person that is likable at all in the story that I could stand to listen to. Maybe I will listen to gateway again and try to figure out why I liked it in the first place. No way I will listen to the third book.

Penn Mitchell vanishes from the NYU campus and shows up three months later on his mother's doorstep with a book screaming to get out of his head. When the FBI discovers the novel discloses top-secret information, they bring Penn in for questioning. The interrogation goes sideways and Penn escapes into a subterranean world he thought was a figment of his imagination, a world where the US government is hiding, and at war with, an ancient race that has existed since the dawn of time.

Very good story but......
Revisado: 04-29-18
I really liked this book, the author is telling what aliens really are. I enjoyed it very much, but there is a little insignificant error that he makes so often that I almost stopped listening. It is not a clip it is a magazine. He kept calling a magazine a clip, over and over. This shows that he doesn’t know anything about guns and I drove me crazy. BUT I still enjoyed the book very much and will get the next book when it is released. I just hope in that book he calls the magazine a magazine and not a clip.

They receive an urgent summons from some unknown entity, proclaiming, “There is a major crisis! People in danger. I need your help to avert a tragedy! There is a major crisis! People in danger. I need your help to avert a tragedy!” Janae and Ken reluctantly answer that call, but what awaits as they venture into some of the unknown reaches of the Trailblazer? What is the nature of the crisis? What people are in danger? And who sent them the message and why? Just exactly what will be revealed as the Tragedy on the Trailblazer?

Revisado: 03-05-18
I liked this more than the first book, they finally went into one of the habitats. Sometimes I got frustrated with some of the choices that Ken and Janae made at times but I guess that’s what makes an interesting story. All in all a good book and look forward to the next one in the series.

This book has me frustrated, but not why you think
Revisado: 02-25-18
Yes I was very frustrated after listening to this book, not because I didn’t enjoy it. I actually loved it from the first chapter through to the epilogue, a great book well narrated. So why am I frustrated you might ask, simple, I found out that none of the follow up books are available on audible. I am going to have to buy them on kindle and read them myself. I do enjoy reading a good book but not as much as listening to them on audible, so that is why I am frustrated. As for the book, like I said a great book read by an excellent narrator. There is no happy ending where everyone comes back alive, nope, there are some real heartbreaking moments. Just get the book and you will see, but you have been warned. All the rest of the books, six I think, are only available on kindle or paperback.

Historia
In 2034, the Universal Mining Agency launched a ship full of eager potential colonists. Conservation provides its passengers with everything they need as it sets off for their new home on a distant, habitable planet. As the decades go by, the optimism and hope that surrounded its launch dissipate, and certain members of agency staff begin to have their doubts about the project. Conservation was meant to be a microcosm of humanity, minus the cruelty and ill health. Society has degraded into a violent, fascist regime built on slavery and famine, but this time, things were to be different.

I wanted to like this but gave up fairly quickly.
Revisado: 02-23-18
The book looked like it would be so good, just my type of sci-fi, but it became obvious early that I was not going to like it. The narrator had a heavy accent that wasn’t necessarily for the story, just made it hard to follow. I gave up so quickly I can’t say that it won’t get better but I was half way in and none of the characters were likely to get any better. And the story was way to predictable I was figuring out what was going to happen at every point in the story. Not to say that you won’t like the book, read other reviews before making your mind, this just wasn’t for me.

Historia
A group of blue collar workers are selected to run the first manned space station, Praxis, at the edge of our galaxy. It will be part of mankind's bold ambition to explore beyond what we know. But trouble is heading right for them. A gang of vicious alien pirates are fleeing justice, intent on continuing their bloody campaign, and Praxis is in their way. The workers will have to defend themselves, unarmed, against a ruthless enemy intent on killing them. The biggest threat though, may be the station itself....

Slow at the start, but what a finish
Revisado: 02-23-18
The book is a little slow at the beginning, a lot of character building. But once they leave for praxis the story takes offf. The last half is edge of your seat storytelling. Parts of the story were a little predictable but that can be said for most stories. But the unpredictable parts (that’s most of it) was so good. The author left an opening for a second book and I look forward to the possibility. Don’t hesitate to spend a credit for this book, it is well worth it.

Not the preacher. Not even a cute little girl and her dog. Only one man can save us all.... Kent Montana.

Funny in places, dark humor but funny. Times I was scratching my head trying to figure what was going on.
