Revisado: 02-10-25
It was a very interesting novel that makes one think about how computers and AI in particular can affect our environment.

Historia
Los Angeles, 1920s: Socialite Mirielle West's days are crowded with shopping, luncheons, and prepping for the myriad glittering parties she attends with her actor husband, Charlie. She's been too busy to even notice the small patch of pale skin on the back of her hand. Other than an occasional overindulgence in gin and champagne, which helps to numb the pain of recent tragedy, Mirielle is the picture of health. But her doctor insists on more tests, and Mirielle reluctantly agrees. The diagnosis - leprosy - is devastating and unthinkable.

Well paced and interesting subject
Revisado: 01-07-25
This book was chosen by a member of our book club. It was a fascinating topic that I didn’t know much about—Leprosy. It made me want to do a little research on the subject.

John Stamos’s Voice is Wonderful
Revisado: 11-04-24
His voice is so soothing without being overly dramatic. The cowboy story lulls me to sleep quickly. I’ve only heard the end of the story a couple of times.

What a Screwed up Family
Revisado: 09-23-24
It was interesting to hear the background of the Trump family dynamics from Mary Trump’s perspective. It sheds light on DJ Trump’s awful grievance filled spoiled attitude about life. He was definitely his father’s son and showed that he has been a sociopath since birth.
Some of the writing was a little uneven in terms of flow but I’m sure it was cathartic for Mary Trump to write.

I don’t read much Fantasy or Science Fiction but when I am in the mood, John Scalzi’s writings always hold my interest. Typing cats and cursing dolphins kept me laughing and entertained.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

May we never stop remembering
Revisado: 06-01-24
It was a powerful novel about a brave group of women and the prejudice they encountered not only by Vietnam protesters but by their own government plus often, their family and friends.
I have a dear friend who was an Army Corp Flight evacuation nurse during the Vietnam War. She was also 21 and it really helped me understand what she went through. At that time I was a So Cal college protester against the war.
My only issue with the novel was the handling of multiple love interests.

This title was from the Plus Catalog. I knew I’d enjoy it when I saw that she was the main reader. It kept my interest and it was the first time I enjoyed a cast of readers rather than just one. Well done.

Confusing but Entertaining
Revisado: 05-22-24
We read this in our Book Club and it probably would have been better to have read it than listened to it. I couldn’t figure out why things were very repetitive but when I saw the actual book, it became clear that it was a series of police interrogations for each of multiple characters.
I gave it a 7.5 out of 10 but it was well received and had an avg score of 8.

Historia
Best seller Alan Brennert's spellbinding story about a family of dreamers and their lives within the legendary Palisades Amusement Park. Growing up in the 1930s, there is no more magical place than Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey - especially for seven-year-old Antoinette, who horrifies her mother by insisting on the unladylike nickname Toni, and her brother, Jack. Toni helps her parents, Eddie and Adele Stopka, at the stand where they sell homemade French fries amid the roar of the Cyclone roller coaster. There is also the lure of the world’s biggest salt-water pool, complete with divers whose astonishing stunts inspire Toni.

Revisado: 04-08-24
I’ve always had a fascination with people who choose the Carney life—-not that I’d ever want to do it. It was well written and narrated.
It was a lighter hearted choice made for our Book Club which we will discuss next week. It’s bound to be a happier discussion than Tortilla Flat by TC Boyle which was our last book; a must read for all Californians.
