Giant pushover

The main character gets bullied constantly even by his supposed familiar or friends alike. kinda ruins the whole hero of the story thing. maybe that's what the writer was going for but constantly being called stupid and treated like the town bum gets old. Jim literally gets bullied about his name throughout the books. Will he ever stand up for himself and grow a pair or will this continue to the next books if so I might not buy the next books
