Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Loved This - So Much More Than I Ever Expected
Revisado: 01-21-23
I had been on the fence about reading this, or listening to any of the interviews, or watching the Netflix series. I avoided all of it until I saw a brief news clip that made we want to see the Steven Colbert interview that I streamed on my tv. In that interview I was drawn in by this warm, compassionate, articulate guy who seemed very genuine. It was that man Harry, in that interview that compelled me to buy this book on Audible.
I am so glad I read this & for so many more reasons than curiosity of his story. I don’t know that I had any real interest in the story I expected this to be. But it wasn’t what I expected at all. What this was, was a compelling, interesting story of a boy growing up and the beautiful winding journey that was his life. Eloquent. Captivating. If it had been published as fiction by some non-descript author it would be just as good a read.
There are so many elements of his life’s experience that are beneficial. I was particularly struck by the journey of his childhood grief and all the many subtle ways that translated throughout his life. I think most people would identify with one or several of the threads of challenges he has dealt with throughout his life.
I did not walk into this as a fan or an enemy. Like most people, I watched him and his brother grow up through images in the media. Like most people I watched his parents wedding and cried tears through his mothers funeral. But my interest in he, Megan and this drama that had made headlines had been almost non-existent. I heard in this book, the story of boy who grew into a man through quite a winding journey. He was thoughtful, compassionate ,articulate, worldly, funny, sad, patriotic and dutiful - if not perhaps a tiny bit naive. This is one narrative in a much more complex saga but it’s so worth reading. I loved this!
And his voice is absolutely delightful.

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Spritual. Adventurous. Thrilling. Tragic. Hope
Revisado: 04-02-18
I was a fan of the film but this book lives inside of me. I find myself thining of bits and parts of it months after listening to it the first time. It is spiritual, hopeful, adventurous, frightening, thrilling, and mysterious. on a purely personal note, I've been sailing with my 34 pound orange tabby and I constantly find myself opening cat food cans and thinking how grateful I am not to be diving for and wrestling sea turtles to keep him fed. God bless Pi and Richard Parker. And God bless Yann Martel for this fabulous modern day clasdic!

My Favorite Childhood Book for Adults! Thrilling
Revisado: 04-02-18
This is one of my absolute favorite childhood books! I'm nearly 50, don't have kids, and wasn't sure it was the best purchase. I was NOT disappointed! Rudyard Kiplings authentic words theatrically performed. I could listen to this over and over again. I needed something light, short and entertaining. This was thrilling & fun!

Relatable. Readable. Interesting & Entertaining.
Revisado: 04-02-18
I stumbled upon this and was drawn to the description , "...the ferocious pull of motherhood - and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.".
I was drawn to the description of this book because of it's personal familiarity. I spent my early childhood in the stable suburbs of the Midwest and have spent decades of my adolescence and adult life travelling endlessly and moving constantly with my artist mother........ "silverware packed in cups, packed in bowls, packed in the skillet, packed in a grocery sack behind the backseat. .........leaving what they couldn't take with them behind .". Mia and Pearl are so close to my mother and myself that my judgement on this book is entirely self-centered. What I can say is that it is a purely authentic and accurate account of the life of gypsy artists. It's also very accurate of my memory of my own early childhood in the upwardly mobile Midwest suburbs.
Mostly, I found this very entertaining. Chock full of diverse and likable characters. A couple of afternoons well spent. The reader was SUPERB!!! Beautifully written! I look forward to more.

Timeless American Classic Brought to Life
Revisado: 02-03-18
A timeless American classic brought to Life! Everything about this Audible version brings the pages to Life. The only thing I would change is that I would have preferred to have listened to a female reader on this particular work. This is not at all a criticism of the reader. This is an incredibly well performed production. Ultimately though, it is a female story and the male reader threw me a curve for the first several chapters.

A Favorite for a Lifetime...
Revisado: 02-11-15
To start with, Arthur Morey' s narration was spot on! I will look for more of his work after this. I am a huge John Irving fan. I love his honesty and candor. He has a very gritty, raw way of storytelling. My mother first read this book and recommended it to me saying that his exploration of the history of tattoo art fascinated her. It fascinated me too but, that and so much more. This was a refreshing departure for John Irving. His lead character, Jack, spends a lifetime traveling Canada, the United States, Europe and the Netherlands in search of more than he realizes throughout his journey. The writing allows the reader or listener to travel with him and in his search, we explore our own journeys. It is honest, brash, compelling story telling - one of Irving' s finest.

Artfully Imagined History - Poetically Crafted
Revisado: 12-02-13
I first read this book in hardcover years ago and it's been a favorite from the very first page. Sarah Dunant has a gift for diving into earlier centuries and drawing those characters into modern comprehension while seducing the reader into a time warp of another place and time - taking them on a historic adventure of art, history, politics, religion, love, strife, and life. Every word is a delicacy to savor. The journey is unforgettable. I love the Audible version. kathe Mazur's narration is sublime.

The Testament of Mary

Historia
Meryl Streep’s performance of Colm Tóibín's acclaimed portrait of Mary is hailed by the New York Times Book Review as “an ideal audiobook,” presenting the three-time Academy Award-winner in “yet another great role.” Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, Colm Tóibín's The Testament of Mary presents Mary as a solitary older woman still seeking to understand the events that become the narrative of the New Testament and the foundation of Christianity. In the ancient town of Ephesus, Mary lives alone, years after her son's crucifixion. She has no interest in collaborating with the authors of the Gospel. They are her keepers, providing her with food and shelter and visiting her regularly. She does not agree that her son is the Son of God; nor that his death was "worth it"; nor that the "group of misfits he gathered around him, men who could not look a woman in the eye," were holy disciples. This woman who we know from centuries of paintings and scripture as the docile, loving, silent, long-suffering, obedient, worshipful mother of Christ becomes a tragic heroine with the relentless eloquence of Electra or Medea or Antigone, in a portrait so vivid and convincing that our image of Mary will be forever transformed.

A Hauntingly Beautiful Memoir
Revisado: 11-05-13
What a hauntingly beautiful rendition of this biblical tale. Colm Tobin channeled the spirit of Christ's mother at the most pivotal, defining moment of her life and that of Christianity. Meryl Streep delivered a flawless monologue of a hardened, lonely widow questioning her fractured spirit. I will listen again and again.
