And Then We Rise is about Common’s journey to wellness as a vital element of his success. A testimony to the benefits of self-care, this book is composed of four different sections, each with its own important lessons: "The Food" focuses on nutrition. "The Body" focuses on fitness. "The Mind" focuses on mental health. And "The Soul" focuses on perhaps the most profound thing of all—spiritual well-being.

Elevated
Revisado: 04-20-25
I am not black and not male, but Rashid's/Common's words elevated me. They are a call to celebrate our gifts, a light and a reminder that our participation is required to rise and resonate on a higher level. I appreciated the practical advice, the vulnerability and the hard won truths that were shared. Blessings to a beautiful soul for giving back so much. Your reach is larger than you might suspect.

Hi, I'm Jordyn. I flew from New York to Culver City, CA to interview for the job of a lifetime. When I walked into The Bookstore, I only wanted a steamy romance or two to help pass the time before my big meeting. I walked out with a cinnamon roll who was more funny and charming than all of my favorite book boyfriends combined. Mike was irresistible, and the time we spent together was more fun than I've had in a long time. But I'm smart enough to know if something feels to good too be true, it probably is. I mean, happily ever afters are just for fairy tales and romance novels...right?

Southern Accent?
Revisado: 04-12-25
Loved the story and the HEA. Really appreciated that female roles were read by a woman and male roles by a man. It was an enjoyable story. The only thing that took away from the story was the southern accent of the female narrator, when she was supposed so be from New York.

February 4, 2003, promises to be a typical day for Olivia Ross - a greeting card writer whose passion project is a screenplay of her own. But after she and a handsome actor have a magical meet-cute in a coffee shop, they make a spontaneous pact: in 10 years, after they’ve found the success they’re just sure they’re going to achieve, they’ll return to the coffeehouse to partner up and make a film together. The only problem? Olivia neglected to get the stranger’s name. But she doesn’t forget his face - or the date.

Enjoyed?.
Revisado: 02-22-25
It was a fun story and enjoyed the plot twist, BUT the protagonist was annoyingly selfish. Her best friend and ex-boyfriend were interesting and fun characters. The LA setting was enjoyable. The personal growth was appreciated. It was just hard to be invested in the main character because she was so self-centered and such a crappy friend/partner. I was rooting for the HEA on Liam's behalf, not the protagonists. The narration was excellent.

Fun, BUT....
Revisado: 01-14-25
The story was fun, similar to others in the series. However, although the male narrator was a talented story teller and had a great voice, he was supposed to be a young Canadian man. There was no North American diction AND he read the Canadian parents with a Southern/Texas intonation. PLEASE, keep this reader, but NOT for similar roles. It made it hard to get into the story when he was reading ( the female narrators was lovely).

Historia
Ultra-private, ridiculously handsome Crown Prince Arthur has always gotten by on his charm. But that won't be enough now that the Royal Family is about to be ousted from power once and for all. When Prince Arthur has to rely on the one woman in the kingdom who hates him most, he must learn that earning the love of a nation means first risking his heart. Twenty-eight-year-old Tessa Sharpe, a.k.a. The Royal Watchdog, hates everything about Prince Arthur. As far as she's concerned, he's an arrogant, lazy leech on the kingdom of Avonia.

Almost Perfect Escapism
Revisado: 09-21-24
Sweet, fun, delightfully predictable story. A minor comment is that the story has more swearing than is needed. The thing that made it only 4 stars for me is the horrible female voice of the male narrator (his male voice is spot on).

It Starts From The Top
Revisado: 09-19-24
This was a fascinating treatis on the French versus North American approach to food and family. Although the author is focused on her children's eating habits, I felt that the challenges stemmed from the authors limited palate, maladaptive habits and cultural anxieties. I commend her for the extensive research and her tenacity. However, at times her intransigence to change and basic palate seemed to infect her children. I guess that might just reflect how hard change or growth can be. It was also sad that she opted to move her family back to Canada after 1 year. The French experience seemed a much healthier and balanced way to raise a family.
A similar book that I would HIGHLY recommend is "Bringing Up Bebe".

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Top of the Class!
Revisado: 08-18-24
This is magical realism at its finest. The characters were well drawn out. The historical fiction aspect was captivating. The back and forth in time-line could be occasionally confusing, but not enough to ruin the story. The narrators were phenomenal. I would highly recommend this audiobook, but make sure to have tissues on hand.

Max Boyson looks good...from a distance. But up close and personal, the tattooed hottie Joelle Prima has been crushing on for the past year and half has turned into the prime example of why you shouldn’t judge a book by his delectable cover. When she first learned about the massive renovation to the building they share, Joelle imagined that temporarily combining her Filipino bakery with Max’s neighboring bookstore would be the perfect opening chapter to their happily ever after.

What's not to love about love, books and baked goods?! The idea was good. The narrators were fantastic. Loved the supporting cast. However, the main characters were very off putting at times. The saucy scenes were done perfectly (good spice and not too graphic).

Rufus Leung Gresham, future Earl of Greshambury and son of a former Hong Kong supermodel has a problem: the legendary Gresham Trust has been depleted by decades of profligate spending, and behind all the magazine covers and Instagram stories manors and yachts lies nothing more than a gargantuan mountain of debt. The only solution, put forth by Rufus’s scheming mother, is for Rufus to attend his sister’s wedding at a luxury eco-resort, a veritable who’s-who of sultans, barons, and oligarchs, and seduce a woman with money.

Another Fun Story
Revisado: 07-22-24
The story was entertaining and in the same vein as his other novels. I appreciated that his characters are not one dimensionality (he gave context to their poor behavior). However, I would have really appreciated more than one narrator. The female voices, especially the British accent was good, but I was desperately wishing for some good male narrators (apart from the one German cameo). I know that I will continue to read Mr. Kwan's books.

Masala Worthy
Revisado: 02-18-24
This was like sitting down with a great cup of Masada Chai tea. It has sweet, spicy and comforting elements. It was especially nice to portray the characters as fallible but worth investigating time and energy in getting to know. It is clean enough to share with Mom. And the narrators were fantastic. Highly recommended for a thoughtful, clean rom-com.
