This flies in the face of so much conventional wisdom. The call to lean into your gifts and stop trying to mimicking is compelling. The author’s insight into the 1999 tech bubble and more is fascinating.

Very well done. Harry doesn’t try to sugar coat events or the struggles in his life. It seems like an effort to just be authentic with his story…for one time in his life. Well done.

This is a strategic look into human nature, how to understand it, how to proactively plan and respond with the best possible outcome. Some people might view this as manipulation. But being purposeful and understanding, something deeper does not necessarily equate to manipulation. The principles played out in this book are extremely insightful and helpful

This book was so well done. Edward Hermann does a fantastic job of emotionally drawing me into the journey and struggle, while painting a vivid picture of what was happening at the time. He weaves Nazi Germany in seamlessly with a very personal story of Joe Rantz and the UW rowing team.

I first read this book years ago and was captivated. The cover is misleading. It looks more like a romantic novel vs. an epic story of a few simple people rising up against tyranny and injustice. It is so well written. Worthy of a movie. But few could do it justice. I’m looking forward to listening to this again.

Would you listen to Shoe Dog again? Why?

Absolutely. It is so engaging, and raw, and authentic. The writing is so clever. Smart.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Many of the characters were interesting. Phil knows how to connect with the reader by explaining the characters in ways I can relate with. He fundamentally points out their quirks, and flaws...and therefore draws me to their humanity.

What about Norbert Leo Butz and Phil Knight - introduction ’s performance did you like?

Norbert has flawless timing. Much of the book is written in phrases. Run on sentences. And Norbert's interpretation and delivery is spot on.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A group of insecure, flawed, obsessive runners join together to build the most successful athletic apparel company the world has seen.

Any additional comments?

Phil Knight has this natural ability to tie different experiences in his life together with like themes and ideas. His transitions are crazy good. And his "call backs" are effortless at times. Repeating phrases from other stories that tie in to new thoughts, and move the story forward
