Historia
Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between and depends entirely upon whom you ask. Seeking to undermine the very fabric of the Empire with their arcane warp-sorcery, the skaven, twisted Chaos rat-men, are at large in the reeking sewers beneath the city. Led by Grey Seer Thanquol, the servants of the Horned Rat are determined to overthrow this bastion of humanity. Against such forces, what possible threat can just two hard-bitten adventurers pose?

Revisado: 11-12-24
Wow, props to the performer for his excellent Skaven voices…. I bet that hurt to do. I, the reviewer, am adding additional words to this review, to meet the minimum word count…. Taxation is theft.

Historia
Bernard Cornwell, the New York Times best-selling "reigning king of historical fiction" (USA Today), tackles his most thrilling, rich, and enthralling subject yet - the heroic tale of Agincourt. The epic battle immortalized by William Shakespeare in his classic Henry V is the background for this breathtaking tale of heroism, love, devotion, and duty from the legendary author of the Richard Sharpe novels and the Saxon Tales.

Music?
Revisado: 08-31-24
What’s with the random, anachronistic, music at random points of the story? I mean, good job trying something new, but if you’re going to add music to an audio book, add period appropriate, and geographically appropriate music to the book. For some reason the publisher chose to inject 19th century romantic era music into a novel about a battle that took place in the early 1400s.
Story itself was fantastic, of course. It’s Bernard Cornwell, after all.
The performance was superb. I love when the publisher matches the right voice to the right story. It felt like I was having drinks in a tavern with a man who fought alongside the main character.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Gripping and informative read
Revisado: 07-23-24
The blinkist review:
1. Ground 0 of Nuclear explosions are hell on earth.
2. There’s a series of monitoring assets designed to detect nuclear launch
3. The speed of missile flight negates any benefit provided by early warning systems.
4. There’s a very intricate system of checks and balances that exists for the President to use nukes.
5. Death by radiation poisoning sounds horrendous.
6. Nuclear war only lasts a little more than an hour.
7. Surviving nuclear war is probably worse than not surviving it.
8. The only winners are the North Korean leaders who will emerge from their caves in 500 years more inbred than Eastern Kentucky, and will repopulate the earth… which also sounds worse that dying in or surviving a nuclear war.

Was Cornwall an Army Supply Officer?
Revisado: 06-28-24
Cornwall in this book, and the next book, perfectly captures the nuances and I-hate-my-life-ness of being a supply officer in the Army. Whatever you do is never good enough, it’s always your fault, and why didn’t you create a miracle to get me what I need?
Also, the choice of an English reader was very grating at first. This is the American South in 1861, why does the narrator have to be English? He seems to struggle between switching from an English accent to some sort of attempted Southern accent… and what you get instead is a voice that sounds like a 1930s radio announcer. He tries, and through his efforts he saves the performance, but if they had picked a lazy English reader, I don’t know if I would have made it through the first quarter of the book.

Revisado: 11-04-23
Definitely helped me in dealing with/ creating a game plan for my first bullshit corporate job (grew up in a blue collar family where work had meaning and gave one a sense of purpose). But the book is about 4-6 hours too long. The author is an academic, and it shows in his work.

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

Just couldn’t listen anymore
Revisado: 07-19-22
Ok, this guys whole military career consisted of working in teams of men who were hand selected after the most rigorous course in the US Military, had an unlimited budget, unparalleled logistical (you need an obscure tool? The us government will get it to you in 24 hours) and now he’s telling the remaining 99% of us how to manage teams.
If you want to learn about leadership in less than ideal conditions, find a book by an infantry commander in Vietnam. Someone who led draftees in an unpopular war.
Leadership is entirely different when you’re leading the unwilling and the poorly trained.

Historia
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Historia
This is the extraordinary story of Vasily B. Emelianenko, the veteran pilot of one of the Soviet Union's most contradictory planes of the Second World War - the I1-2. Having flown 80 combat sorties against the Germans, Emelianenko was awarded the highest decoration - the Hero of the Soviet Union. He went on to complete a total of 92 sorties; his plane was shot down three times; and on each occasion, he managed to pilot the damaged aircraft home. Emelianenko's vivid memoirs provide a rare insight into the reality of fighting over the Eastern Front and the tactics of the Red Army Air Force.

Poor performance
Revisado: 07-19-22
What should have been a riveting tale of a ground attack fighter pilot in world war 2, was transformed into a dull reading.
The author once mentioned accidentally dropping phosphorus filled bombs on friendly troops. In the book, he acted like this was a minor miscalculation, when in reality he burned countless friendly Soldiers alive.
