Critically acclaimed cult novelist Matt Ruff makes visceral the terrors of life in Jim Crow America and its lingering effects in this brilliant and wondrous work of the imagination that melds historical fiction, pulp noir, and Lovecraftian horror and fantasy.

Picked this up after falling in love with the HBO show. I was glad to find the book was very different. Such a great story, easy listen and very well read by Kevin Kenerly.

Historia
On May 4, 1886, a bomb exploded at a Chicago labor rally, wounding dozens of policemen, seven of whom eventually died. A wave of mass hysteria swept the country, leading to a sensational trial that culminated in four controversial executions and dealt a blow to the labor movement from which it would take decades to recover. Historian James Green recounts the rise of the first great labor movement in the wake of the Civil War and brings to life an epic 20-year struggle for the eight-hour workday.

American History that needs to be told
Revisado: 06-21-21
Death in the Haymarket is another incredibly important part of American history that everyone should know. So many people have negative sentiments toward unions with no understanding that so many people fought and died for the rights they take for granted.
