Historia
Norman Mailer's Pulitzer Prize-winning and unforgettable classic about convicted killer Gary Gilmore now in audio. Arguably the greatest book from America's most heroically ambitious writer, The Executioner's Song follows the short, blighted life of Gary Gilmore who became famous after he robbed two men in 1976 and killed them in cold blood. After being tried and convicted, he immediately insisted on being executed for his crime. To do so, he fought a system that seemed intent on keeping him alive long after it had sentenced him to death.

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Spanish-American War, then pay attention...Two captivating manuscripts in one audiobook: The Spanish-American War and The Philippine-American War. The Spanish-American War really only lasted about 10 weeks (the buildup and decision to go to war took longer than the war itself), but a peace treaty was not signed until December of 1898. This was an event that was the tipping point for the end of the Spanish Empire and the rise of the US as a formidable player on the world stage.

I've read other history books by this group and enjoyed them. That makes this life support system for an agenda even more disappointing. I was an hour into this 5 hour book and the author was still lambasting the US for slavery, the treatment of indigenous Americans, and the irony of the Civil War. While all of these points are accurate I don't see the reason to reiterate them chapter after chapter of a book about the Spanish American War. The constant inclusion of misrepresented historical facts combined with outright falsehoods was infuriating to anyone with a moderate understanding of the conflict.
After trudging through an historical cesspool, (Mauser rifles were smokeless, infact it was the ammunition. American weapons were inferior because they brought their own, all of different calibers. etc.) The entire Cuban part of the war was boiled down to constantly repeating that the 9th colored infantry was far superior to the "US troops" in experience, bravery, and even dealing with malaria (not one single mention is given to ANY of the regular army units involved. Only the 9th and the AVG). at the end of this conciliatory wave to the actual fighting in Cuba the author finishes up by saying US troops attacked up kettle hill (accurate) the spainsh retreated, then Roosevelt led a 2nd charge up San Juan Hill. (asinine).
This book is not only filled with inaccurate and blatantly wrong information, it is presented in a dictatorial and condescending way. This type of agenda driven writing is exactly why people have misconcepts of historical events, and inly serves to muddy historical perception.

Historia
On December 29, 1890, American troops opened fire with howitzers on hundreds of unarmed Lakota Sioux men, women, and children near Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota, killing nearly 300 Sioux. As acclaimed historian Heather Cox Richardson shows in Wounded Knee, the massacre grew out of a set of political forces all too familiar to us today: fierce partisanship, heated political rhetoric, and an irresponsible, profit-driven media.

Historia
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

Warpath and Bivouac, or the Conquest of the Sioux offers a picture of campaigning in the 1870s and records the sights and sounds of plains warfare. This campaign was the one in which General Custer suffered his famous defeat at the Little Big Horn. Finerty gives an account of the Battle of the Rosebud which preceded the Custer massacre, and also reports on the later 1879 campaign to force the surrender of Sitting Bull and his Sioux who were the last resistance after Custer's defeat.

amazing first hand information
Revisado: 03-24-20
when I first started listening to this I was appalled by the racist overtones of the writing. I downloaded it chiefly because it is a brand new release dealing with the lakota Indian wars and includes a large part of Crooks movements, and the battle of the Rosebud just days before Custer's fight in the little big horn.
when I went back a read the book description I realized it was written in 1890 by a reporter that actually rode with Crook, was at the Rosebud battle, and subsequently was with the Canadian major at peace talks with Lakota, and had a personal conversation with sitting bull himself (whom he refers to as "mr bull".
with that understanding this is an absolutely amazing book and an invaluable research tool for my historical novel "One crowded hour"

Over 12,000 helicopters were used in the Vietnam War, which is why it became known as "The Helicopter War". Almost half of the helicopters, 5,086, were lost. This memoir describes first-hand the harrowing experiences of helicopter pilots and crews in combat operations, from the far South to the DMZ, including the infamous Ashau Valley, Hamburger Hill, LZ Airborne, and others. 19 Minutes to Live illustrates the incredible courage and determination of helicopter pilots and crews supporting those heroes that carried a rucksack and a rifle in Vietnam.

I often find myself saying "did you even read the book?" or "how could you have possibly missed the entire point?" such is the case here. an excellent book about flying snakes in Vietnam, the back history was much appreciated an well written. this book can easily stand beside other greats such as "chicken hawk"

Historia
Here, in his own words, is the true story of America's wildest flying hero, of his extraordinary heroism, and of his greatest battle of all-the fight to survive. The World War II air war in the Pacific needed tough men like Colonel Pappy Boyington and his Black Sheep Squadron. The legendary Marine Corps officer and his bunch of misfits, outcasts, and daredevils gave a new definition to "hell-raising" - on the ground and in the skies.

excellent book but the best part is never spoken about. the author talks about his life in flying but also honestly about his alcoholism and personal responsibilities for his failures. very inciteful. unfortunately the narrator is clearly self obsessed and painful to listen to. I cranked it up to 2.5 x speed and it was much better.
