Horrible
Revisado: 03-31-25
There is so much wrong with this story I’m not sure where to start. An almost date rape, mean girls that haven’t evolved since high school, a best friend who sets you up with an abuser and a main character who whined her way through the book. This is one of the few times a movie interpretation is so much better than the book..

Historia
For decades, Marge has been spying on her neighbors Doris and Bob, reporting every sordid thing she sees to her husband, Harold. Flamboyant Doris and boring Bob are an odd couple, but as Marge watches their comings and goings, she starts to wonder if there’s more than meets the eye. Is Doris’s latest hobby—flamenco dancing, of all things—an attempt to spice things up, or is there something more sinister going on in the house across the street? Soon enough, Marge learns that digging into her suspicions means digging herself into a very deep hole.

Annoying main character
Revisado: 12-07-23
The narrator did a good job with the female voices not so great with the male ones. I enjoyed the story until the murder and then I found the main character beyond annoying and I couldn’t wait for it to end. I have read other series by this author and loved them. This one not so much.

There's been a spot of bother: The treasurer has absconded with the club's funds and several prized birds. Historia
The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Historia
Tucked away among Devon's rolling green hills, Mallowan Hall combines the best of English tradition with the modern conveniences of 1930. Housekeeper Phyllida Bright, as efficient as she is personable, manages the large household with an iron fist in her very elegant glove. In one respect, however, Mallowan Hall stands far apart from other picturesque country houses. The manor is home to archaeologist Max Mallowan and his famous wife, Agatha Christie.

Commute read
Revisado: 11-05-23
This was a perfect book for a traffic filled commute with more stops than go. I did enjoy the mystery and the brief glimpses into the fictional world of Agatha Christie but I wasn’t completely satisfied with the main character in the story. Philly was a little off putting and the big tea beak at the end of the book went on far too long. I did enjoy the narrator and thought she did a good job.

Historia
May 1912. After the previous year’s deadly heatwave, it’s been an uneventful spring in Littleton Cotterell. Though for Lady Hardcastle and her fiercely loyal lady’s maid Flo, at least there are the provincial delights of the village’s inaugural art exhibition—and bicycle race—to look forward to. But at the exhibition opening, there’s a panicked shout of ‘Fire!’ In the confusion, the main attraction—an extremely expensive book—is stolen from under everyone’s nose, as is a valuable painting lent by Sir Hector Farley-Stroud.

I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction featuring real people in fictional situations and this one didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed the storyline and the setting of Paris was perfect. The main character did start to push the line between curiosity and hindering a police investigation by the end of the book but overall I enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one.

Narration distraction
Revisado: 10-27-23
I like this series and author. Amy’s aunt Lydia is by far my favorite character in this story. I do have to say I was not fond of the narration at all and it detracted in my enjoyment of the book. The narrator of the first book was much better. This narrator made the characters appear so much older then they really were. I will continue with this series but probably in print form.
