Brilliantly researched. The tale is brutally honest as the time and the place itself. The characters real and authentic. And though the story has a happy ending, the aftertaste from the portrayals of the ugly horrors of the War is overwhelming. Heighly recommended.

The tale of sacrifice and resilience told with brutal honesty. Unforgettable and painfully moving. One more brilliant book from Ellie Midwood!

In her stunning The Indigo Rebels, book 2, Ellie Midwood introduces the reader to the new engaging and multidimensional characters, at the same time, bringing us together with the ones we cared for in book 1. A master of intrigue, concealed, and mysterious, the author produced yet another book that you won’t put down till the last page is turned. Each phrase and nuance of the novel adds to the depth of the plot. The amazing writing craft of the writer gives a real feel for the ugly horrors of war and of the just cause of resistance, bringing the reader on a journey with the characters. I eagerly look forward to reading the third installment to this series. Highly recommended.

The story of two sisters and their younger brother left in the occupied Paris and the choices they make. As with all Ellie Midwood’s stories, I was immediately pulled in and found myself drawn into the suspense.
Depiction of the characters and their emotional state come to life. One of the sisters struggles with feelings of her husband's indifference and abandonment. The other sister is flamboyant and the opposite of her younger sibling. They both grow to change significantly through the occupation). Their younger brother, at first confused and uncertain, finds his way into the resistance movement. The relationships between them and the people with whom they interact are as complex as one might imagine in such difficult times.
The story gives the reader a look into daily life in France under Nazi control. I’m kin to find out in the next two books, who of the main characters chooses self-sacrifice for the good of others to overcome evil and who favors self-preservation. I can’t recommend this book enough for anyone who enjoys reading about WWII from different perspectives.

There were so many praising words said about The Austrian and other Ellie Midwood’s books that I, as a writer and an avid reader to the subject of WWII, cannot help but add my voice to the chorus of her excited readers. I immencely enjyed the audio version of the book.
