I absolutely love WhisperSync and look first for books with this feature, because I find It doubly or triply enjoyable to listen and also be able to read the page alternately or simultaneously. I read/listened to this wonderful book before I saw the movie and felt so absorbed into the story, the details, the surprises, the motley crew of characters, that when I did later see the film it was a much deeper experience. The best books I listen to are like friends whom I wistfully wish farewell at the end. This was such a book.

This book, which I both read and listened to, was so thought-provoking, inspiring, and compassionately written. I am the same age as Cal and the evocation of childhood in the 60's and 70's was spot-on. All the craziness of this delightful family made perfect sense. The reader/actor brought each character to life so beautifully. Can't wait to read more by this amazing author.

As a professional musician, I enjoyed reading a story, and a mystery, that was centered in my universe. The writing is energetic, character-driven, and well-constructed, with believable dialogue and internal subtexts. My high school age musician nephew will especially love it! Kate Racculia captures the spirit of a subject that is obviously hard to write about but that fires us up and even drives our actions. Jessica Almasy's performance delineates the various characters very well (she modulates her voice to sound like a high schooler one moment and an older man the next) and was brightly paced. I highly recommend this entertaining book.

Interesting but not my favorite Morrison novel

My daughter and I listened to it together for a college assignment she had. I was surprised to find Ms. Morrison's reading so unengaging, and badly paced. But I did like her characters and the evolution of the story. It was very insightful, and rather painful, to listen to. I hope to read the print version someday, I think I would like it better.

Having no experience in the vaccine development or medical field, I found this an interesting insight into both the profession and the politics, as well as the explorers who carry both out. The characters were drawn thoroughly and yet still left room for surprise and growth. Hope Davis' reading was excellent. I also found the two main settings, cold Minnesota and steamy Amazon, to be a fascinating mix. I haven't done any of my own research to see if the tribes and flora and fauna Patchett described bear any relation to reality, but they were certainly convincing, in a visceral way. I enjoyed it very much.
