I loved this book. I wasn6t sure on the length. most audio books this long lose me about 14 hours in. I have to say other than a few overly detailed sections it was very entertaining. I will definitely buy the next one no matter the length.

The story had me from the beginning but the narrator repeating himself multiple times got annoying. I kept thinking my audio messed up and would back up only to realize it was the recording. He did ok with voices and the read but lacked emotion at times as well as read a little slow with too many pauses. It was not a horrible listen but could have been much better. The story was great though.

I love bdb! I have read and listened to them all multiple times. While Ward hits on some pretty rough topics in every book, this one hit me hard. Having a family member who gave up as Lucas did made this very emotional read for me. I had to turn it off, take breaks, and push myself to finish it. Her points and realizations on the subject are on point and made it even more real. I have to say if some one you know and love has taken their own life I would not recommend this book if it is still raw. If you are struggling with their decision long after the fact then this might be the words you need to hear. I know when I have time to process Wards insightful words I will be better for it.

New favorite male narrator

I listen/read alot of books. I have a new favorite female narrators and one male. But even that male does not have the voice this man does. It's like a sweet caress of velvet to your ears. Makes your heartbeat jump when you know a new chapter of his tantalizing voice was about to begin. I could possibly listen to that whiskey fine voice for hours and hours with out a single hint of guilt for loving it! Yum! The female was good to. And the pair made this a great listen!

Now for the story, this is the first I've read/ listened to by this author. Fantastic. I will be investing in more. I read reviews that said it was predictable, far fetched, unbelievable..... while the adventure is something a bit exaggerated and very unlikely to happen, especially where I am in Texas, that is also why I liked it. If I wanted to read about every day situations and such I can listen to my teenagers day at high school! For me the bit of exaggeration is just what I needed to pull me out of my funk! So I would definitely recommend this one, book and author.

I listened to the entire series again before listening to Quintus, and I must say I was very disappointed. Not so much in the story but In the narration. Not only did it go from one male narrator to two, one of each sex, but the voices did not have enough change between characters. The female did change pitch of characters atleast. But the male spoke the same tones with reading, speaking, or thinking for every character. Previously Quintus has an accent, which made his voice stand out against everything else. This one there wasn't an accent. Also it should be mandatory for a new narrator to actually listen to the book before, or the entire series, before attempting to record it. Now I'm listening not reading so my spelling will be off, but the majestic animal Kia and Mao change into was spoken 'payo' in the last book, where the new call it a pixeu. And it took a few time hearing Casedius (demon vampire chick) name before I realized that was who they meant. It is said nothing like the previous book. Both these things could have been avoided, along with the hint of an accent, if the narrators would have spent the time to listen to the book before this one. Heck, even the last couple chapters would have worked. It just aggravates me when you get used to either a narrator or the way things are pronounced and it is changed in the middle of the series leaving us hanging on what's what. I love these books but I truly had a hard time listening to this one. The story (while very close to all the others in the series) is not bad, if a bit predictable. But honestly that's why I like these books. Some books you read you have to have a dictionary, thesaurus, calculator and medical journal beside you just to understand them. These are easy going and fun. I like that. So good book, not happy with the narrations lack of homework.

I was a bit ify on this book. I'm not usually a 4 hour read type. I like a lot of grit in my story time. But today I needed a laugh and found this little jewel. at one point I went to pick up my son from school and switched to headphones to listen. He was starring at me like I was crazy as I drove down the road just a cackling at the word play! Short but very fun!

The book was great! I love all Susan Stoker's big bad boys. The reason it does not get a 5 star rating is I listen mostly through headphones and the last 2 hours or so you can hear background noise. Men talking. A beeping. It actually sounds like a tv or radio playing. It is faint and not noticeable while playing on the speaker. but in the headphones it's like listening with the radio in the truck on low and the headphone on high. Very annoying. Love the narration. Loved the story. Just hated that noise!
