I read the book some years ago. After listening to Jamestown Brides a couldn’t resist consuming it again. It’s funny. I visited Plimouth Plantation some years ago. Struck up a chat with one of the interpretive/actors. I asked him who he was. When he said Billingsly , I said to him”oh my, you got hanged!”

I rarely write reviews. I am overwhelmed by the thorough flow of the story. If you want a clear compelling history of the Sackler family
and their creation of the opioid crisis this is the one. It’s a deep dive into the personalities of all involved. You’ll learn more than you imagined possible.

Great Title in every way!

What can I say? Where do I start? First of all having Kristen narrate was awesome, no one could have done it justice but her. I loved her honesty and humor, she invites you to jump on the roller coaster and hold on tight. She takes you deep inside the issue of dependancy and addiction and how very vulnerable we all are. At the end you celebrate or her story and her survival and can't wait to see what happens next.

Facinating, compassionate and compelling.

A story that will stay with you. This true story pulled me in and kept me hooked. It does a great job of showing you the inside of the traveling revival world, the personalities and motivations, the complexity. The story is told with honesty and compassion. Although much damage was done along the way, especially to the kids involved , the story ends with the families coming together with love and forgiveness.

First I was lured by the fact that Alan Cumming was narrator. I'd like to bring him home and listen to him every day. I was then fascinated by the opportunity to better understand and appreciate " The Scottish Play". It was wonderful, beautifully told, very visual and tragic. I just can't recommend it enough and I will listen to it more than once which I rarely do. I hope that the authors will consider another play for this treatment, I would purchase that book , but we have to have Alan too!

Like nothing you've read before.

This is my first review although I've been a listener for years. My husband and I listened to this together on a long trip and were riveted. The Night Circus, how I wish I could go there!
The story begins with a mysterious circus appearing suddenly in a field in a small town and then you are off on tale of to old magicians competing, using their two students as pawns. The characters are wonderfully drawn, unique and compelling. This novel is extremely visual, you listen and can see the beauty of it all. The story is not predicatble, which I love and my husband enjoyed it as much as I did. I can't recommend this novel enough and am looking forward to her next one.
