Historia
When former spy Maggie Bird retired to the seaside hamlet of Purity, Maine, she settled in for a quiet life with breathtaking views. But enemies from her past soon threatened to destroy everything. Maggie survived, thanks to her wits and the collective intelligence of the Martini Club, the circle of ex-CIA friends in her cocktail-sipping book club. Their handiwork, however, caught the attention of young police chief Jo Thibodeau. Now Jo and her neighborhood ex-spies have an uneasy alliance.

Great series
Revisado: 04-20-25
The retired former operatives are back to their adventures in Maine; there's a kidnapping and a death to solve. There is also a very disfunctional family stuck together in their Maine house. I enjoyed the characters and the unraveling of the mysteries.

Historia
Rain slicked streets, riots, murder, chaos. It’s July 1992 and the Troubles in Northern Ireland are still grinding on after twenty-five apocalyptic years. Detective Inspector Sean Duffy got his family safely over the water to Scotland, to “Shortbread Land”. Duffy’s a part-timer now, only returning to Belfast six days a month to get his pension. It’s an easy gig, if he can keep his head down.

Historia
Evelyn Waugh's most celebrated work is a memory drama about the intense entanglement of the narrator, Charles Ryder, with a great Anglo-Catholic family. Written during World War II, the story mourns the passing of the aristocratic world Waugh knew in his youth and vividly recalls the sensuous pleasures denied him by wartime austerities; in so doing it also provides a profound study of the conflict between the demands of religion and the desires of the flesh.

This is a fabulous reading of a classic, I enjoyed every minute. I read this many years ago but I had forgotten a lot of it. This is a fascinating view of a world long vanished, but quite fascinating. Jeremy Irons is the perfect reader . I highly recommend.

I loved the first in the series, Deanna Raybourn is a must buy for me. I enjoyed this, but the time shifts were problematic for listening. Perhaps it would have been better to read. I enjoyed the characters and the many settings

Historia
Charles Warren, Los Angeles attorney, has dedicated his career to aiding people in financial straits. He is particularly skilled at the art of recovering assets that have been embezzled or hidden. In his newest case, helping a beautiful young widow find the money missing from her late husband's investment accounts, Charlie recognizes a familiar scheme—one that echoes the con job that targeted his own widowed mother many years before, and that led him, as a teenager, to commit a crime of retribution that still weighs on his conscience.

Charming
Revisado: 02-09-25
This is a charming coming of age story set in 1970s ? Baltimore. Mary Jane, a 14 year old gets a job as a summer Nanny with a family very unlike her own. The Cones are Jewish and Dr. Cohen is a psychiatrist. The author does a fine job capturing the time and place.I found this so pleasurable, the reader was excellent.

Historia
She's just watching, thinking about it again, when a big flash car pulls up outside. No one gets out. Then the doors of the bar open and people appear. Two men and a youngish woman, and one of the men has a hold on the woman's arm. It looks as if they're having words. Then this all happens quickly—they push the woman towards the car, one of the back doors opens, and they manhandle her inside. Sarah hears a muffled shout from the woman and the car pulls away. It's all over in a few seconds.

This is an excellent novel and it is read so well. The story is told by the 13 year old son of a small town in Minnesota minister. It takes place dorong the summer of 1960 , and the story is lovely, sad, but not depressing. I couldn't t stop listening and this book will stay with me.

I enjoyed this
Revisado: 10-19-24
Thomas Perry is a must listen for me. This one is a bit unusual; a view into the mind of a killer, not creepy but so practical, and the mind of a private detective. There are many logistical details some might find boring, that I found fascinating. The reader was excellent.
