Historia
War crimes investigator and ex-CIA officer Joe Johnson is more than intrigued when he learns of a link between the financing for the presidential candidate's 2012 campaign, the Nazi train, and a ruthless blackmail plot. But the investigation becomes bigger and more deeply personal than Johnson expects when it turns out the SS Holocaust killer escaped his net years earlier. Soon, there are high-level intelligence agencies and criminal networks combining across three continents against Johnson and his two female colleagues.

General all around awfulness
Revisado: 02-24-25
Lack luster narrative. Too much political posturing no matter what your preference. Waste of my monthly credit.

Historia
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Wonderful Long Listen + Sweeping Story Line
Revisado: 01-22-12
I listened to the Winds of War a few months ago and downloaded War and remembrance as soon as it was available. I have never read either book, but like this type of book regardless of historical era: multiple story lines, lasting many years, excellent character development - combined with prominient historical characters and their actions. You either like this type of story or not.
Kevin Pariseau is the perfect narrator for this type of genre, switching between European, American, male and female accents with ease.
The actual story ended rather abruptly, but after a weeks thought - and the story and themes do make one think, this may be purposeful. But it does make one look for a part three, as if the two books were written as a trilogy. Hence, the reason it is not a perfect 5 star in all catagories.
Wonderful book that multiple generations can read and discuss. My dad read both books when they were published. Having just finished Winds of War before the holidays, it made for lively discussions about human nature and geopolitcs in the evenings!
I highly recommend this listen!

Excellent narrator
Revisado: 11-23-11
Sweeping drama with multiple story lines that are very successfully woven together. Narrator makes each indiviual unique with great accents, both men and women. Can't wait to hear the sequel in another week!
