Thoroughly enjoyed
Revisado: 09-05-24
This was so entertaining. I am definitely a dog person and just loved the whole origin premise. The voices sounded like there were several people involved; such range and talent.

Kept me interested
Revisado: 07-21-20
For a free original, i really liked this. It kept me interested the whole time. The title doesn't seem to fit it though. Maybe I missed something there but a good family secrets story. Love the Australian setting and accent and it was interesting to see another perspective of the pandemic as the backdrop.

Decent Koontz Story
Revisado: 03-15-19
I am not completely through this but I wanted to say that I like it well enough. It's definitively a Koontz terror story. The narrator's voice if fine but I wonder if a female voice would not have been better. Or maybe a little more suspense in the reading? Other reviewers think the narrator is terrible but I would blame it more on the director and editing. Anyway, it was a good way to spend my commute time.

Not your usual audio book
Revisado: 02-13-19
This was the first time I ever heard a recording like this from Audible. It was like listening to the audio only part of a TV show so that some things you had no idea what you were hearing or what was going on. Since I listen to these on my commute to work, it was sometimes difficult to know who was speaking or what some of the characters were actually saying. The story was interesting but as some others have commented, there was a lot going on with some of the smaller characters that I am not sure were necessary. Unless there are going to be continuing installments, I didn't see the point of some of it.
I might not have tried this format if it had not been free, so thank you to Audible for making it available.

Historia
Set in a lethal pro football league 700 years in the future, The Rookie is a story that combines the intense gridiron action of Any Given Sunday with the space opera style of Star Wars and the criminal underworld of The Godfather. Aliens and humans alike play positions based on physiology, creating receivers that jump 25 feet into the air, linemen that bench-press 1,200 pounds, and linebackers that literally want to eat you. Organized crime runs every franchise, games are fixed, and rival players are assassinated.

What's Pookie Chang doing here?
Revisado: 04-27-18
Would you listen to The Rookie: Book 1 again? Why?
I probably would not listen again but rather go forward.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Rookie: Book 1?
Seeing Scott's vision of the future of the universe and what other species might be out there. That and he thinks Miller beer will still be around. Too funny
Which scene was your favorite?
The description of Earth and hearing "Hudson Bay" being used as a portal to outer space.
Any additional comments?
I consider myself a "sometimes" fan of football so some of the more detailed passages about plays were a little boring/confusing. But I really like the development of the character of Quentin. Since I just finished Nocturnal, it was really funny hearing that Pookie Chang is now playing intergalactic football.

Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Such manipulation - masterful!
Revisado: 12-27-16
What did you love best about Gone Girl?
The total reversal of story - you never know who to believe or feel sorry for.
What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Having the 2 different voices made it feel more "real" not just acted. They both did an excellent job.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Total disgust at what people are capable of.

Love the tongue-in-cheek style
Revisado: 09-23-16
What did you love best about Life Expectancy?
The somewhat amusing way the main characters accepted things in their lives. Also the various twists with the family tree was great.
What did you like best about this story?
the entire premise of predicting "5 bad days"
Have you listened to any of John Bedford Lloyd’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, and like to listen to his voice
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"life can be funny sometimes but clowns...not so much"

Ending was rushed and unsatisfying
Revisado: 09-23-16
What did you like best about The Funhouse? What did you like least?
I think the notion that "carny" life is secretive and a bit different; I think the end for Striker was just a total letdown.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The least interesting was the friend Liz; interesting aspect was that 2 women gave birth to these creatures, lived with them and that one of them took most of it in stride as if that happens everyday
Which character – as performed by Karen Peakes – was your favorite?
I think she did well as the main characters, the mother and the daughter
Did The Funhouse inspire you to do anything?
write this review
Any additional comments?
I find the fact that Liz calls her best friend "kid" constantly annoying. Teens don't usually do that. Also, the ending should have had some reconciliation between the mother and her past...sometimes Dean Koontz will have an epilogue where we find out what happened several months after the main story.

Good but a little out there
Revisado: 08-25-16
Where does State of Fear rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was entertaining but I found some of the characters to be more than human with all the near death situations they faced
What was one of the most memorable moments of State of Fear?
the cannibal scene with the tv personality
Any additional comments?
seems like some of these people were just unbelievably strong...and survived some really bizarre situations.
