I loved this book!
Revisado: 08-02-23
I thought the author’s unfolding of the plot was skillful and her character development in Josette and Carla was wonderful. I was actually disappointed when the book ended because I didn’t want to part from Carla and Josette. Their integrity, grit, thoughtfulness in communication and action were such that I want them as lifelong friends of mine! And Julia Franklin’s narration is delightful.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Historia
Based on actual events that happened between 2005 and 2009 in a remote Mennonite community where more than 100 girls and women were drugged unconscious and assaulted in the night by what they were told (by the men of the colony) were "ghosts" or "demons", Miriam Toews' bold and affecting novel Women Talking is an imagined response to these real events.

These women were asking, answering and acting upon deep concern philosophical questions in spite of not being able to read or write. I was disappointed that the story ended. I wanted to know more about their journey and search for safety, autonomy and freedom.

In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Stunning
Revisado: 09-25-22
Long and complex, but, a case of literature mirroring life for sure. This is a beautifully written look at war from many varying perspectives. The plot unfolds slowly and mysteriously. I kept finding myself wondering how the two main characters lives were going to finally converge. You will be fully satisfied when they finally do in a breathtaking orchestrated event that redeems a rather wimpy and unlikely hero.

A whole new insight on complicated family dynamics. Good descriptions evoking eighties culture. I love how the storyline is first carried by one sister and then completed by the other.
