really well done story, absolutely love the premise and the characters and would like to see a larger version. the ending was perfect for what amounts to a bite size novel, great for an afternoon read or listen.

Most realistic SHTF scenario

overall story was super believable, for those who like prepping and SHTF scenarios, this would be the closest to reality for the kickoff of a collapse. The prepping done by the second protagonist was excessive, but in a real world where billionaires are building bunkers, who knows? I loved the narrator, very realistic voice for someone in SOF teotwawki book world. Great emotions and likely thought processes by people trying to survive at all costs.

A great series of exciting, tense and thought provoking stories involving the outdoors! It involves people who are both experts and weekend warriors, and their trials and tribulations in the great outdoors. Really solid story telling. 10/10

walk the dog an extra lap around the neighborhood good, turn a half marathon into a full marathon good. I have the hard copy, kindle and now audible book versions and every year or 2 I re-experience this AMAZING TRUE STORY! The fact that both History and A STRANGE MYSTERY were right off the coast of a sleepy east coast town still blows my mind. Makes you get out your wetsuit and start training just in case, just in case you get a call like the one that lead to a multi-year adventure! GREATEST RESPECTS TO THOSE THAT LOST THEIR LIVES AND THOSE THAT MADE HISTORY DESPITE THE ODDS, DANGERS AND TRAGEDY!

an amazing addition to the old man War series Universe of sci-fi writing. if you like sci-fi and have only read old man's War definitely pick up this Splinter story in the same universe with the same characters that you meet in the old man's War series some of the best science fiction writing ever in The History of Science Fiction. if you like science fiction I will bet that you will love this series.
