Deeply informative; definitely a bit disturbing

I am a big fan of Mr Gladwell’s works. The depth of research analysis always impressive. Love the audio style with real interviews, news clips, recordings embedded. Now that the root causes have been identified, how do we self-correct? I hope we can quickly get back to a society where we begin with “trust in the positive intent of strangers.” Not long ago, I was stopped for changing lanes without signaling on a busy, multi-lane highway. I was in a good frame of mind and appreciated both the reminder and only a warning, not a ticket. But this book showed me how tough law enforcement have it— less appreciative public and very likely the wrong training enculturated. It’s a broken system and they alone should not have to take all the blame.

Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.
