Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

Amazing story read by the perfect reader
Revisado: 03-06-25
I loved this book. I have laughed and cried. The story grabs your heart and then breaks it. The reader’s accent and way of characterizing each of the ladies is perfect. She truly grabs the traits and personality of each as she transitions. Her accent is perfectly suited to where the family originates. The story gives you a glimpse of a time I did not live and would never have any way to grasp life in this period but for skillful writers like Barbara Kingsolver. She has a gift for truly immersing you into the story while carefully including accurate historical events throughout this beautiful work of historical fiction. This is a must read! Keep tissues handy; I listen on my drive and I had to go to work several times with moist eyes.

Historia
When an eccentric Englishman named Phileas Fogg makes a daring wager that he can circle the globe in just eighty days, it’s the beginning of a breathlessly-paced world tour. With his devoted servant Passepartout at his side, Fogg sets off on an adventurous journey filled with amazing encounters and wild mishaps. Pursued all the way by the bumbling Detective Fix, who believes the two travelers are bank robbers on the run, Fogg and Passepartout must use every means of transportation known to 19th-century man - including a hot-air balloon, a locomotive, and an elephant - to win the bet.

Don’t miss this classic; excellent reader for this wonderful story
Revisado: 01-23-25
I loved the story so much; I can’t believe I never read it when I was younger. I’m trying to read all the classics I missed reading now. The story is so good; still fun to hear even today. The reader, Patrick Tull, for this is impeccable. He plays the characters so well, especially Passepartout. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book and the Mr. Tull really added to my enjoyment.

Historia
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Emotional story that keeps you guessing
Revisado: 01-18-25
I enjoyed this story very much, most of the way through, but the ending was tough. I thinking that is because I love endings to be a specific way; I don’t want to express too much so as not to give it away. It was intriguing though. The performance is great. The main character is easy to like, although sometimes I want to tell her to say something!!! It is a great story that brings to light feelings that would be unbearable to endure and hopefully very few people have to endure such a difficult event as having someone disappear and go missing. Overall I really enjoyed the story.

Intriguing story of every day people as told by Dr. Franklin
Revisado: 10-23-24
I found this story and added it to listen to when I couldn’t choose something at some point. It took me a while to recall it, but I’m so glad I did. This was surprisingly fun and the story shares the most captivating and entertaining glimpses of the bits of life that the Chicago doctor saw in his patients, his colleagues, students, and residents. He shares stories from his early days and later. I enjoyed every minute of this book.
