Sorry to say, I was pretty disappointed at the story. I realize the majority of the reviews are very positive overall,
but it just didn't do it for me. I really can't give the narration a positive review either, it just fell flat for me in the end.
I wanted to like this book after it being highly touted, but in the end it wound up floating belly-up in the 'Bama blackwaters.
Maybe I will try to listen to it once more after the bitter taste subsides.

What made the experience of listening to splinter the most enjoyable?

It is a good old fashioned creep-you-out kind of story. I think it's perfect for an audiobook.

What other book might you compare splinter to and why?

It sorry of has the vibe of Psycho

What does JK Carpenter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is compelling. It has that mysterious tone and delivery. I found myself listening to it while closing my eyes. I loved it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

For me it was the encounter with Dr. Bader and Dr. Vann in the small cafe. You just knew that something ill-fated was going to follow.

Any additional comments?

This short story is really, really good. The characters are believeable and it's keeps you guessing throughout. The narration is great!
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend this book to anyone who loves a creepy tale.

If you could sum up Gone Girl in three words, what would they be?

Deranged. Calculating. Devious.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the separate views from the main characters in telling their version of the story.
It's always intriguing how people embellish their version of a story, and often times its widely different from the others take on it. The two main characters were perfect for the story. I believe they both deserved each other....LOL

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first one for both of them. It won't be my last though, as I thought they both did an outstanding job in their performances.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was, but thankfully I spoon-fed myself over the course of about a week. That gave me time to digest everything I had been listening to, and just how maniacal it all truly was. Cool story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Most definitely so. It has suspense and solid character development, along with just enough "Believe-ability" to make it an entertaining story.

What other book might you compare Silence in the House to and why?

This book was unique enough in the storyline that it's hard to compare it to an existing book.It has the classic haunted house vibe thing going on, but the Russian style story-telling keeps it refreshing. For what its worth in comparison...maybe a softened version of The Amityville Horror?

What does J.K. Carpenter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like his ability to drift from one character to another in the story, while making it flow and keeping it entertaining. His rendition of Spike was priceless for the character in the story.

If you could take any character from Silence in the House out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I think it would be Lana's friend Allison. She has that no nonsense approach towards life in general. She pulls no punches, you pretty much know where you stand with her at all times. And then there's her cynical sense of humor that really adds to the story. But best of all...she doesn't put up with any of Spike's BS.

Any additional comments?

I think listeners will really enjoy this story. If you like suspense/thrillers with a good plot and unexpected twists and turns...you've found the right audiobook.

What did you love best about No Country for Old Men?

The mental pictures the author created was impressive, even down to the smallest detail.
A very well written story!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked the villain Antawn Shaguhr. He was incredibly ruthless throughout the entire story.
His cold-blooded and calculating ways were very disturbing.

Which character – as performed by Tom Stechschulte – was your favorite?

Again, it was Antawn Shaguhr in the way his speaking manner was so deadpan, but at the same time you could feel the twisted hatred in his words.

If you could rename No Country for Old Men, what would you call it?

Evil is Only a Step Away

Any additional comments?

A fabulous story that I will never ever forget. The narrator Tom Stechschulte's performance was spectacular as well. He did an amazing job of depicting the wide array of characters throughout the story. I will listen to this one more than once.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

There are some of my friends that I certainly would, and there are some friends that may not appreciate the story due to its sexual and graphic content. Overall I would recommend it yes.

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself is so crazy but at the same time totally believable. The author's imagination is dark and disturbing in a good way if you're a fan of horror stories that is. I was really "creeped-out" by the manner at which Ernie (main character) had evolved into the personality he was in the story. The depiction of him and his infatuation with his "living dolls" was a cross between mental sickness and a pure stroke of genius by the author. Guys like Ernie most likely do exist in our society (which makes it totally believable) and coupled with his sadistic sexual appetite makes this story hard to swallow, but at the same time infatuating to listen to. It is nearly three hours of a wild ass roller-coaster ride of sexual fantasy turned nightmarish reality for a few unsuspecting females.

Have you listened to any of Jeffrey Kyle Carpenter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to some of his other audio books. This performance in my opinion, demanded more character acting than the other ones I've heard. He does a really good job capturing the character of Ernie, and just how utterly demented he is. Bob (Jodi's boss) was also done exceptionally well in the story. I find myself with a white-knuckled clenched fist after hearing some of his female-bashing comments he blurts out at times. He is certainly a twisted guy with serious narcissistic problems over-running his life. I believe that Mr. Carpenter captured the dark and gruesome story line perfectly. In addition, the perverted main characters were all too real at times. I think its his best performance to date.

If you could rename Dollhouse, what would you call it?

I believe "Dollhouse" sums up the story to perfection. It was Ernie's creation, and I'm sure he wouldn't want it any other way.

Any additional comments?

This story is not for your ears despite the harmless title. Definitely for adults only! You WILL NOT read another book like this one, I'm willing to bet the farm on that...or the dollhouse. The only advice I could give...."Ladies avoid the moonseed berry juice!!"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. The story is very well written and it keeps you on you on the edge of your seat. It has numerous twists and turns that make you squirm in your seat.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bad Games?

I think when the Fanelli brothers held the Lamberts captive in their Mom's house. It was a really tense period of time, that seemed to steal your breath away.

What about Gary Tiedemann’s performance did you like?

I liked his delivery of the narrator's voice in the story. Very smooth and clear.I had never listened to one of his performances before this, and I plan to follow his work going forward. He is quite versatile in his voice inflections, which really kept me interested in the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Parts of it were funny. I found myself laughing out loud more than once. I never cried, but I certainly felt compassion for the Lambert family as they dealt with the ongoing "Bad Games".

Any additional comments?

Overall, this was a really good story. The author orchestrated the plot smoothlyand timely. Coupled with the solid narration, made the audio book really stand out.

If you could sum up Meat: A Vampire Novella in three words, what would they be?

Gory, Creepy, Nightmarish

What other book might you compare Meat: A Vampire Novella to and why?

I'm not sure I could compare it to anything. I've never read or listened to anything like it before. It's a really disturbing story overall. I love scary weird stuff, and this even unnerved me. It's like The Walking Dead in a surreal supermarket setting. But it has a really solid story and creepy vibe to it. I'm hoping that Michael Bray has intentions of doing a sequel to this book, because I still have mixed emotions about Garrett.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think when "the group" was trying to escape, and were forced to witness their surroundings as they made their way to a hopeful freedom. I could literally feel and sense what they were witnessing along the way. That was pretty disturbing for sure. I really don't want to spoil it for other listeners, so I will just leave it at that.

Who was the most memorable character of Meat: A Vampire Novella and why?

I liked Lee the most. He surprised me as far as to what type of guy he played out to be. There were a couple other characters that ran a close second, but he is my pick.

Any additional comments?

The is one crazy, creepy story that still makes me uneasy when I'm forced to go to the grocery store. It's my first take on the author Michael Bray, but it won't be my last, I really like his writing style. The narration was very entertaining as well. I've heard Jeffrey Carpenter read a couple of other books prior to this. He is a talented guy, and I always have my eyes and ears open to his work in the future.

Revisado: 10-27-15

What did you love best about Fall from Grace?

The characters were believable and down-to-earth. The author did a really nice job of
bringing them to life and merging them into the story. I thought the narrator showed a broad range of vocal command in depicting the individual characters. I especially liked the Cajun granny and her whimsical dialogue. Only wished she would have played a larger role in the story overall, but it was still a great book to listen to, especially for a first-time author.
Definitely a huge surprise ending. I didn't see that one coming. Great job!!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It most certainly did that. It seemed that the story took at least two or three sharp turns and totally caught me off guard throughout. Without giving away anything, I think listeners will be swayed into believing what their ears are telling them, but ultimately its all a well-crafted mind-bender that will have you shaking your head at the end. The small-town setting also seemed to give it that wholesome appeal, one that you couldn't help but be drawn into. But, even in the most seemingly secured setting, nobody is safe from the satanic and sadistic ire of a deranged killer.

Which scene was your favorite?

It's hard to have a favorite really. I suppose the finding of the unfaithful wife brazenly murdered on the front lawn of the church, really set the tone for how vicious and uncaring the killer was. For any person to orchestrate that heinous act, shows how black their heart really is.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I went through several reactions. Laughing, fearful, nervous, compassionate, just to name a few. Being from the Midwest or Plains states, it was a story that certainly hit home with a big impact for me. The characters conversations and reactions to each other and the escalating drama that surrounded them was nerve-racking at times. I think most readers will experience some of these same reactions, and then probably a variety of others as well.

Any additional comments?

This first book by Tammy Lynn Acuff is a tremendous accomplishment. She has most definitely done her homework regarding the police work throughout the story. The Cajun characters added a nice unique touch to the story as well. I enjoyed very much listening to the narrator's depiction of each character. I hope the pair will join forces again somewhere in the future on another audio book!

Would you listen to A Man Called Ove again? Why?

Most definitely so. It is such a unique storyline, one that draws you in the more you learn about the characters and their little idiosyncrasies. It simply got better as the story went on.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Man Called Ove?

I think towards the end. Not to give anything away, but sometimes the hardest nut can be cracked and from it comes a crèam puff after all.

What does George Newbern bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His delivery is spot-on. Good job of capturing the voices throughout the story without going over the top on any of them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It could have been, but I'm glad I stretched it out awhile. It was hard enough when the book ended as it was.

Any additional comments?

A very good story and well narrated
