Revisado: 11-20-24
The story was very fun, The relationship between the MC and his companion remind me a lot of Venom and Eddie Brock from the Marvel movies.
if there is anything negative to say (besides I'm sad it's over and we didn't get to hear more stories from auxiliary characters) it's that the MC is a 100% Go-Go-Go! character. I don't mind this but i know I've heard similar complaints about characters like this before. He reminds me a lot of Lindon from Cradle.

About 75% more "adult" than I would like!
Revisado: 11-20-24
I guess I missed the part where this was basically mc summons a battle harem. I actually really enjoyed most of it and the steamy scenes are few and far between, but they're just not really my favorite.

How would you like to begin an apprenticeship in the mystical craft of artificery? You'll learn things that most people can only dream of. You'll make swords with self-sharpening blades, bows that fire by themselves, and clocks that can read the future. Even better, you'll get to live in the sunlit village of Sunhampton, a sleepy little crafter's village of cobbled streets, cozy taverns, and pleasant bakeries. If this sounds like just the life for you, then grab a beer and a sweet roll, and follow Lewis as he begins his new life as an apprentice.

Tentative Recommendation
Revisado: 11-20-24
There was definitely a lot to like about this story but I struggled to finish it.
I'm not sure if it's the writing or narration, but the flow of the story feels off.
I feel like every paragraph is a run on sentence and it's really hard to get a good feel of the flow of time.
I want to know what happens to Lewis, but I don't know if I have the patience to listen to the next book.

One character grinding
Revisado: 11-12-24
Not sure how so many people found this enjoyable so I'll just offer my insight. The MC is alone in the apocalypse and fights monsters. Thats all I've got.

Revisado: 11-05-24
I think the story had potential but didn't realize any of it.
there have been maybe 3 conversations of consequences so far. And I say that generously. mc spends a lot of time checking off boxes on his achievement list. but nothing interesting is really happening.

progression fantastic distilled, maybe a bit too much.
Revisado: 09-22-24
this is really a fine example of progression fantasy. the MC doesn't grind much, and I actually wish there was more struggle. He basically gets to call out his goals and achieve them. the greater story is very slow to develop but it's still very fun. don't read if you're queerphobic I guess because there is one(1) queer character. this seems to have upset some reviewers.

MC Is OP
Revisado: 09-12-24
Look, this is a power fantasy pure and simple. The MC gets a busted power and he knows it, but the storytelling is actually decent and the battle scenes are detailed but not excessive. I often just ignore battles in a lot of other books because they seem to go on too long and don't progress.

Historia
Humberside City, nestled in the north of Britain, is on fire, and it has taken a few weeks for anyone to really notice. The fire brigade have been doing their best, as have the other emergency services, but whoever is behind the fires has been systematically running them ragged. Whitehall is worried. Something doesn’t add up, so they’ve dispatched a warlock - a former illegal mage, pressed into service of the government to deal with matters of the arcane - to look things over.

For Fans of Dresden and Alex Verus
Revisado: 05-04-24
This book started a bit slower than I expected but it was such a steady ramp up in tension I can't point to the event that turned it from a casual listen to I'm staying up late to finish.
Parker clearly has a lot of Dresden influence in his character. It almost feels like I stepped into an alternate reality version of the Dresden Files. as a huge Dresden fan this is a compliment. I'm very interested in further books.
The magic is kept sort of vague which makes sense given the position of the warlocks shown. That said, what was shown has a lot of interesting potential, especially in the last chapter or so.

Need More Stars
Revisado: 03-25-24
I really enjoy stories about drafters, and while I could have done with some more fighting I didn't once care about its lack. I only wish there was more stars to give it for performance, the different voices and accents made it very easy to follow dialog and really immersed me.

Historia
Professional heroes kill and loot deadly monsters every day, but Gorm Ingerson's latest quest will be anything but business as usual. The adventuring industry drives the economy of Arth, a world much like our own but with more magic and fewer vowels. Monsters' hoards are claimed, bought by corporate interests, and sold off to plunder funds long before the Heroes' Guild actually kills the beasts. That's a terrible arrangement for the Shadowkin; orcs, goblins, kobolds, and their ilk must apply for to become Noncombatant Paper Carriers to avoid being killed and looted by heroes.

Good old fashioned fantasy, not a comedy
Revisado: 08-25-23
At first, I thought this would be a comedy, but everything is played really straight. there are humorous moments, and references to the real modern world we live in, but it's really just a good old-fashioned band of misfits trying to regain their glory type story.
The characters each had a lot of flavor, without feeling overly tropey. Yes the main character is a disgraced warrior trying to get his life back on track, and there's the mage whose power is too great for her to properly contain, but the characterizations of these characters made them feel like characters that happened to meet tropes rather than tropes being slotted in because they were supposed to be there.
