Historia
Anyone familiar with H. P. Lovecraft's work knows of the Necronomicon, the black-magic grimoire he invented as a literary prop in his classic horror stories. There have been several attempts at creating this text, yet none stand up to Lovecraft's own descriptions of the Necronomicon...until now. Fans of Lovecraftian magic and occult fiction will delight in Donald Tyson's Necronomicon, based purely within Lovecraft's own fictional universe, the Cthulhu Mythos.

Love This Book
Revisado: 01-09-22
I've read this book a number of times and just love it. At first, Matt Godfrey's voice seemed strange for it, but after settling in, it stopped being an issue. what a fun and interesting outline of a necromancer's travels!

Historia
In the secluded Dutch territory of Sleepy Hollow, nebbish schoolmaster Ichabod Crane competes with the town hero for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the 18-year-old daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party at the Van Tassel's farm one autumn evening, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, an apparition said to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper snuffed out by a stray cannonball.

In this course, the roots of fantasy and the works that have defined the genre are examined. Incisive analysis and a deft assessment of what makes these works so very special provides a deeper insight into beloved works and a better understanding of why fantasy is such a pervasive force in modern culture.

I love how this series of lectures and Michael D.C. Drout's other series about the history of SciFi do a great job of explaining it all for the layman. I never get tired of listening to them.

Historia
For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of men, bullet by bullet. With each kill, the tangled network of monsters responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians becomes increasingly clear. He is given his next target: a plump Libyan diplomat who is prone to drink and is currently in Paris without a single bodyguard. Rapp finds him completely unprotected and asleep in his bed. With confidence in his well-honed skills and conviction of the man’s guilt, he easily sends a bullet into the man’s skull. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes.

Enjoyable, but suffers from sophomore slump
Revisado: 09-24-17
While I certainly did not DISlike this chapter in the Mitch Rapp story, I found that this one didn't grab me as much as American Assassin did. The ending/resolution felt a bit rushed, and lacked the satisfaction of a real comeuppance for the antagonists, what with them being given the easy way out, courtesy of Rapp. Hope the third installment kicks it back into high gear.

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Ain't not sayin' she's a gold-digger
Revisado: 09-17-17
I've never seen the movie, but love the song. Going into this knowing nothing, I really didn't know what to expect. Everyone is so enamored with this movie and I guess the imagery associated with it, but it's basically the tale of a lying gold digger who kind of strings along this thirsty nobody, and at the end, she leaves and keeps doing the same stuff someplace else. Nothing about this story is romantic. It's not a bad story, but one that falls short of all the hype associated with it.

A Real Blast To Listen To
Revisado: 09-10-17
Where does American Assassin rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Pretty highly. I listen to a lot of audio books and this was certainly one of the better ones.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes and no. Obviously we know that Mitch Rapp doesn't die in this book since he goes on to star in so many more, but I DID really want to know what happened next.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Personality. When I first heard his voice, I wasn't sure about it, but his Stan Hurley is fantastic. He also does accents very well. A real asset to the experience.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
"Moved" makes it sound like "were there really tender moments in the book", and no, there weren't. And I really like that. There was no romantic subplot shoehorned in, or anything like that. The part that did elicit a physical reaction was when the Sayed was playing 20 Questions with the hostages, though.
Any additional comments?
Knowing nothing of the series or the characters or the narrator, I went into this experience not knowing what to expect, green as could be. The idea of a spy who is untrained but brimming with natural talent is not a new one, and no new ground is broken here either, but it is very much a fun listen and a good kickoff to anyone who wants to follow Mitch Rapp's adventures. An A from me, friends.

So bloated it floats. We all float...
Revisado: 08-02-17
Really really enjoyed it. Much more material than the 1990 TV movie was able to include. The narrator does an absolutely amazing job, even as he reads aloud Stephen King's obsession with erections. Though perhaps not requiring a length of 1100+ pages resulting in this 44 hour marathon, it's a terrific story that is well worth the effort.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

I...Don't Know How I Feel
Revisado: 05-23-16
The narrator makes the whole thing worth it. His John is perfect. The story itself feels too long by half, and there were multiple times where it could have ended neatly but didn't. but the narrator's depiction of John was so so perfect and funny. Worth it just for that.
