Historia
The world named Mount Lookitthat was never meant for humans - it was shrouded in lethal mists. Life existed only on one plateau, unreachable except from space. But the disastrous decision to colonize the planet could not be reversed. So the settlers survived somehow - under a ruthless dictatorship. Mount Lookitthat was rebellion-proof. Then fate dealt the colonists a wild card named Matthew Keller, who had a talent that neither he nor anybody else knew about. At last the colonists had a glimmer of hope!

least compelling Niven I've read
Revisado: 05-01-22
This book might have been better with a different narrator. The writing is dry and a less news worthy voice might have punched it up.

No Complaints
Revisado: 01-21-22
A compelling well-written story, it's easy to see why this book is so popular. My only complaint is the overuse of the word vertiginous. Use it three times to learn it, not to slap your readers.

'...but, I'm going to make him a side character and not give him any plausibility. Readers will spend the whole story waiting for some deeper meaning and purpose to the lone fantasy character I threw into this science fiction but never get any satisfaction.'
Try and get Red Dwarf out of your mind, I dare you.

There is not much Scifi in this book. Not that it doesn't qualify, but rather that it's dressing for Game of Thrones intrigue and colonial history.

...you've never heard of a dildo and need a break down on sex toys and lubes? Then this book is for you. You'll find it is also a great white elephant gift for the jocular church-going woman who likes to hide her staid reality with a patina of modernity. She'll most appreciate the breathy vocal performance that varies between comedy and kindergarten teacher.

One of today's premier biographers, Jean Edward Smith, has written a modern, comprehensive, indeed ultimate book on the epic life of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. This is a portrait painted in broad strokes and fine details. We see how Roosevelt's restless energy, fierce intellect, personal magnetism, and ability to project effortless grace permitted him to master countless challenges throughout his life. Smith recounts FDR's personal battles and also tackles head-on and in depth the numerous failures and miscues of Roosevelt's political career.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.
