I was 13 years old when I saw the movie Mommie Dearest. I recall watching the scenes of Joan punishing Christina and having the epiphany “I am not alone in this.”
I bought this Audible edition and listened to it over Mother’s Day week, to remind me that it wasn’t about me. I was collateral damage in my mother’s anger toward herself, that her childhood wasn’t the best, and because she saw herself in me, somehow she needed to take that out on me.
The narration of this recording is excellent, and the book reveals there was so much more the movie never showed.
Thank you, Christina, for making me feel I wasn’t alone.

Listened to this on a drive out to Phoenix- it was fantastic! Movie should have stayed true to the book and had the same ending. Much better. Loved it.
There’s a little bit of Tyler Durden in all of us.

We all know what we should do to sleep better, this book puts it into a 4 week plan and gets you motivated to actually do it. We’ve heard not to read our ipads before bed, but I didn’t know the why… it interferes with melatonin, which is vital for sleep. Once you understand the importance of why we need to do what we need to for better sleep, you’ll be on board with this easy-to- follow plan. The pdf printouts help keep you on track. The performance alone was relaxing, soothing and got me ready for sleep.

This book is not for people with clutter. Marla suggests that if you can’t remember to clean your sink, put a sticky note on the window above the sink to remind yourself. In the amount of time it takes me to get a pen and a sticky note and write a reminder, I could clean the sink… If you have a messy home, the last thing I need is a bunch of sticky notes all over the house making it look even worse. This book is not for me.

Something’s off with this one... I have Stephens Hyang’s other titles, and none of them sound like this... there’s an echo to this recording, and coupled with the narrator’s low vocal tone, turns this into an eerie listen... not great when you are trying to train yourself to let go of the past! Not sure why a more upbeat narrator wasn’t selected here... even the “Getting out of Debt” title narrator was peppy, and debt is not an easy thing to be peppy about... could have used that guy here... I listened only to write the phrases down on flip cards and will repeat those on a daily basis so I don’t have to play this again...

Dr. Fauchi is my hero- he tells it like it is. That’s what we need- the truth, cut and dried. He is a fascinating man. He has guided 6 presidents and presents his information apolitically. We need to listen.

Listened to part of chapter 1, forwarded to chapter 2, wasn't much better. Forwarded to chapter 3- weird statements along the lines of " how would you explain the value of a can of soda to an alien?"were off- putting. I kept forwarding through the chapters and it never got any better- got to chapter 7 and I just gave up. If you get 7 chapters in and they still haven't started to discuss how to spend smarter, I'm throwing in the towel. Plus, narrator sounded pretentious.

An interesting behind-the-scenes story of how Johnny Cash’s performance at Folsom Prison happened and the recording and release of the event. Learned some things I never knew.

The narration was annoying- every sentence was read as though everything he was saying was very exciting- for example, “that’s when Steve walked through the door!!!!!” But Steve just sat down at a table. Meh. This became irritating really fast. It was almost as if the narrator thought if he read everything as if he were excited, you’d be excited about the info, too. I put up with it to hear the story behind the making of the album, but I’d never want to hear this guy again.
