Historia
Over two unbelievable decades, the New England Patriots were not only the NFL's most dominant team, but also - and by far - the most secretive. How did they achieve and sustain greatness - and what were the costs? In It's Better to Be Feared, Seth Wickersham, one of the country's finest long form and investigative sportswriters, tells the full, behind-the-scenes story of the Patriots, capturing the brilliance, ambition, and vanity that powered and ultimately unraveled them.

Great detail and insights to legends
Revisado: 10-19-21
I have been a life long Patriots fan and I was looking forward to this book. I wasn’t sure how it might appeal outside Patriots nation but it does. The center is three amazing men - Brady, Belicheck, and B Kraft behind the dynasty. People keep evolving and sometimes can’t be satisfied in the same relationship if they don’t evolve well together and have true respect.
This is as much a book about a sports dynasty with insights behind the curtain as it could be taken as professional relationship advice on how to be successful.

Great narration. Too much “daytime drama” for me

I enjoyed the reader and a good portion of the book but it was too many twists that felt forced and predictable.

Historia
How was the Patriots dynasty built? And how did it last for two decades? In The Dynasty, acclaimed journalist Jeff Benedict provides richly reported answers in a sweeping account based on exclusive interviews with more than 200 insiders - including team executives, coaches, players, players’ wives, team doctors, lawyers, and more - as well as never-before-seen recordings, documents, and electronic communications.

Great insights and summary
Revisado: 09-18-20
I am a diehard Patriots fan - read the Wells report and always kept up on my team. I wasn’t sure how much I would really learn or gain insights but the interviews - behind the scenes - and views from the owner, coach, TB, and other players and insiders created a great story.
The insights to Bob Kraft‘s approach on how to manage a successful operation through key people, leaders and execution goes beyond the NFL and has applications to Business and Social / Political leaders
It is unlikely to see another NFL dynasty again (even in the leaner ‘08-‘11 years) that dominated the NFL (not just AFC East) for 20 years. KC appears to be on their way but we will see what happens now that large long term salaries have been signed.
Perhaps it isn’t over “The Dynasty” for the Pats - Bill has time to prove us all wrong ...

Historia
Since its founding in 1892, GE has been more than just a corporation. For generations, it was job security, a solidly safe investment, and an elite business education for top managers. GE electrified America, powering everything from lightbulbs to turbines, and became fully integrated into the American societal mindset as few companies ever had. And after two decades of leadership under legendary CEO Jack Welch, GE entered the twenty-first century as America's most valuable corporation. Yet, fewer than two decades later, the GE of old was gone.

Well researched and a story of Hubris
Revisado: 07-23-20
The book is well researched and tells the story of the fall of GE. This was not a result of a few bad decisions but a corporate culture accepting - even encouraging - earnings manipulation (smoothing at best) over decades. This highlights a former CEO’s overblown ego trumping fiduciary obligations. There were early warning signs and an honest depiction to investors and employees from 2001 could have avoided the inevitable downfall.
The story is just another sad story of corporate greed and how a few senior leaders who made a lot of money while the shareholders, employees and communities suffer and shoulder the burden in the end.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

This was another solid Grisham novel and extremely well read by M Beck. It’s shortfall was it had a lot - far too much - irrelevant backstory and details on insignificant characters.

This was well worth the read. Yes many items are not new - eat real food NOT processed, get organic, real food, more veggies than meat, etc. The insights on pliability and hydration was well written and easily understood.
Time well invested - now I have to put what I just learned into use. I may never play in a Super Bowl but I can get the most out of my life.

This is not a comedy book but a great story based on Trevor’s real life. I enjoy him hosting the Daily Show but really enjoyed this book. I really hope Lupita Nyong’o plays his mom in a movie adaptation some day. Maybe Winston Duke as his step father.
