Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

I am undone
Revisado: 07-08-24
I saved this book to my wish list and decided to download for a road trip. What came next is beyond anything I was prepared for. I became so ensconced in violas world I felt her every word. I learned life through another lens. I gained even more respect and compassion for people that have had different paths than me. This is a must listen. Life altering.

Historia
It is commonly thought in secular society that the Bible is one of the greatest hindrances to doing justice. Isn't it full of regressive views? Didn't it condone slavery? Why look to the Bible for guidance on how to have a more just society? But Timothy Keller sees it another way. In Generous Justice, Keller explores a life of justice empowered by an experience of grace: a generous, gracious justice. Here is a book for believers who find the Bible a trustworthy guide as well as those who suspect that Christianity is a regressive influence in the world.

I can’t believe this was written over 10 years ago. I found myself so many times nodding yes and brought back to the heart of our Father which is full of compassion and justice.

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

It’s a must listen
Revisado: 05-10-22
I really felt like I had a solid understanding of our country‘s history as it relates to slavery and the treatment of black people.
This book provided details that not only expanded my understanding but made me sit with my discomfort. They were mini portions I could only do 20 minutes and put it down I need to work through what I had just listened to. All while realizing, being able to put the book down is a privilege in itself.
Every non black American, I beg you to take the tine. Loving your neighbor seeks to understand.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.
