Riveting from start to finish
Revisado: 11-20-23
Beautifully written and tells you everything about Cleopatra that is known. I do hope that they find her mausoleum/grave one day. The narrator did an Excellent job. Extremely easy to listen to. If you’re fascinated by Ancient Egypt and/or Rome, you’re going to really enjoy this. Very difficult to read about her 4 children and the way they were used as political pawns because of their politically and historically important DNA. ONLY ONE survived to adulthood. Not terribly unusual for the time they lived when the age people lived to were far less than they are today. If only the amazing buildings of Ancient Alexandria still stood today.

Historia
This is Bryce Courtenay's moving tribute to his son, Damon, a hemophiliac who died from medically acquired AIDS on April 1, 1991, at the age of 24. April Fool's Day is controversial, painful and heartbreaking, yet has a gentle humor. It is also life-affirming, and, above all, a testimony to the incredible regenerative strength of love: how when we confront our worst, we can become our best. This tragic yet uplifting story will change the way you think.

I’ve listened to audiobook 3 times over the years. It’s a MUST LISTEN, although very heavy going at times due to the subject
Revisado: 11-16-23
The story of a fathers (and mothers and Celeste(girlfriend and live in carer/partner) of the Mighty Damon. Bryce and Benita’s son. Born a haemophilic and acquired HIV and eventually AIDS through a blood transfusion. It’s utterly heartbreaking what this family went through. Of the main characters, being Bryce, Benita, Damon and Celeste, only Celeste is still alive today. At the time this was written, the Medical Profession (and society in general) still had a LOT to learn about AIDS and peoples attitudes toward the disease -especially the disease when there are Mental health issues or other medical issues at the same time. I’d like to think we have advanced as a world, but I’m not so sure sometimes. I just hope that one day, there will be a CURE for AIDS -and a CURE for cancer. Sadly, Sometimes the treatment described in this book (AZT) seemed to be worse than the disease it was attempting to treat. What Damon, and those that loved him went through is a huge testament to the love they all had/have for him. His brother Adam is an author now, like his Dad before him, Look up Adam Courtenay. The narrator of this book was fantastic. Perfectly Australian.

Great Content -Narrator -one was not fantastic
Revisado: 04-29-22
Overall the historical content is great- but the narrator for Chapter 8- Caesar and the Conquests of Gaul -had a particularly distracting-almost comical voice to listen to. I had to fast forward to the next chapter because In the end I couldn’t listen to him. I’d have loved to find the chapter headings easily(I did in the end-but I couldn’t find out who that particular narrator is). I did hear Allen C.Guelzo too and that chapter 8 narrator wasn’t him.
Huge fan of Professor Bob Brier-who is the reason I purchased this one. His lectures on Ancient Egypt are absolutely brilliant.

Completely believable
Revisado: 12-10-20
Stephanie was sadly chewed up and spat out by the Trump team(not just the East Wing)when they believed she could no longer being a scape host for the outrageous amount of money lining certain pockets for the inauguration. For Melania to disingenuously pretend she barely knew this lady -after everything that Stephanie did for her-is far more telling about the person the First Lady is than it ever will be about who Stephanie. A Trump is a trump is a TRUMP. The only exception- Mary Trump.

History has lied. Anne Boleyn has been sold to us as a dark figure, a scheming seductress who bewitched Henry VIII into divorcing his queen and his church in an unprecedented display of passion. Quite the tragic love story, right? Wrong. In this electrifying exposé, Hayley Nolan explores for the first time the full, uncensored evidence of Anne Boleyn’s life and relationship with Henry VIII, revealing the shocking suppression of a powerful woman.

Historia
In 2007, Dr. Martin MacNeill - a doctor, lawyer, and Mormon bishop - discovered his wife of 30 years dead in the bathtub of their Pleasant Grove, Utah, home, her face bearing the scars of a facelift he had persuaded her to undergo just a week prior. At first the death of 50-year-old Michele MacNeill, a former beauty queen and mother of eight, appeared natural. But days after the funeral, when Dr. MacNeill moved his much younger mistress into the family home, his children grew suspicious.

So much heartache as a result of two narcissistic EVIL people
Revisado: 02-28-16
What Martin MacNeill put his wife and children through is an absolute disgrace-and Gypsy should also rot considering she was sleeping with a married man-who participated in destroying his family for her own selfish gain) whatever happened to the 4.5 ct $US7000 DOLLAR engagement ring Martin gave Gypsy? The only reason she testified AGAINST MARTIN was so that she didn't have to do further jail time. Poor Michele that must have had an inkling into what Martin was capable of-bc she warned Alexis "if something should happen to me-make sure it wasn't your father" - Both Martin and Gypsy are PURE EVIL and should be treated as such. Fantastic work Shanna on your book. Thoroughly researched. Pam did a great job with the narration too.

Very well written
Revisado: 02-22-16
If there was ANY doubt that Jodi Arias is guilty of first degree PRE MEDITATED MURDER-this book dispells that doubt-if indeed it existed in the first place. To send TA voicemail messages-and send flowers and a very long letter to TA's Grandmother-as well as attend the Memorial service of the man she just butchered defies belief. I still believe JA deserved the death penalty.
